A separate brute for guild exp
System as it currently is sort of is very open to use abuse, contributes the players feeling locked in guilds etc being discussed on other threads.
Think examples best way to do this.
Say you are a greenhorne with tiny brute, you have a friend who is a hero..
You want to have highest guild exp based title.
You grind up a bit, then die.. Repeat.
Other chars have done this on their own of course around the expert level.
die ahh well I am mainly quest exp so meh..
Okay then we have a big character at very violent. They change guild and are not on recovery, they crawl through guild exp titles, sometimes not getting access to the skills.
They COULD suicide to go backwards be on recovery and problem solved... But seems backwards to kill yourself intentionally..?
Anyway here is the idea..
Have each guild slot have its own brutaltity, reset when you join..
So you may be violent as an overall but when you join a guild its slot brute (aka slow down experience mechanism)
takes a while to catch up.
So gameplay wise any character can quickly move through the initial titles but it gets slower when they have a good amount of guild exps..
THIS IS NOT A GIVE ME THE BEST TITLE IN A DAY IDEA!!! HAVE TO WORK TO GET THERE, BUT LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD.........
Advantages:
A player with a tiny brute will have to work much harder to use/abuse the system.
A player with a nasty brute isn't stuck having to plan suicide.
And now... what any good suggestion wouldn't be complete without.. Yes its made up figures =)
For all examples you make a solo Kill and gain 5000 xp
Currently
Example 1 - Overall Brute = between 5 and 95, for this example 80% reduction (this changes based on your brutality ie Quests)
Guild tax = 5%
After brute => 1000 added exps
Then divide According to guild taxes.
=> 50 added guild exp. (To your guild exp.)
=> 950 combat exp. (To your stats.)
Example 1 - Overall Brute = between 5 and 95, for this example 20% reduction (this changes based on your brutality ie Quests)
Guild tax = 5%
After brute => 4000 added exps
Then divide According to guild taxes.
=> 200 added guild exp. (To your guild exp.)
=> 3800 combat exp. (To your stats.)
Suggested change
Example 1 - Someone with high "normal" brute but not that long in a guild.
Overall brute = between 5 and 95, for this example 80% reduction (this changes based on your brutality ie Quests)
Guild brute = between 5 and 95, for this example 50% reduction (this changes only on how much guild exp you already have)
Guild tax = 5%
First divide according to guild tax
=> 250 guild exp pool
=> 4750 combat exp pool
Then apply brutes, one for each guild and general.
=> 125 added guild exp. (250 reduced by 50%)
=> 950 combat exp. (4750 reduced by 80%)
All that has changed is guild exp has its own brute.
Example 2 - Someone with very low "normal" brute but has already got high in a guild (think death recovery).
Overall brute = between 5 and 95, for this example 20% reduction (this changes based on your brutality ie Quests)
Guild brute = between 5 and 95, for this example 90% reduction (this changes only on how much guild exp you already have)
Guild tax = 5%
First divide according to guild tax
=> 250 guild exp pool
=> 4750 combat exp pool
Then apply brutes, one for each guild and general.
=> 25 added guild exp. (250 reduced by 90%)
=> 3800 combat exp. (4750 reduced by 20%)
All that has changed is guild exp has its own brute.
A power point presentation will follow.

Good idea. I have been thinking about EXACTLY the same thing. It is how it should work.
Great minds think alike?
That is if brute has to stay - I would happily get rid of brute completely and never look back.

Re: A separate brute for guild exp
I hope that is clear, but even scanning it now looks a mess
THE POINT IS THIS.
THE GAME PLAY IS A BIT BROKEN AS THINGS STAND.
BIG PLAYERS SHOULD MAKE BE ABLE TO WORK TOWARDS GREAT GLADIATORS ETC, GET THE COOL TITLES.
AND NOT BE AT A BIG DISADVANTAGE BECAUSE OF THEIR SIZE.
PLAYERS ON RECOVERY OR WITH LOW BRUTES SHOULDN'T BE ABLE TO ROCKET TO TOP TITLES.
I HAVE SEEN SOMEONE JOIN MONKS AND GET TOP TITLE IN LESS THAN A WEEK WHILE ON RECOVERY.
REWARDING LEMMING LIKE DYING BEHAVIOUR IS LAME!!

COOOL! Its one of those I think it makes a lot of sense, but waiting for it to be shot down..sharn wrote:Good idea. I have been thinking about EXACTLY the same thing. It is how it should work.

been there, done that, without death recovery ...Tarax the Terrible wrote:Think examples best way to do this.

I was quite confident death recovery was now also triggered by guild leaving? I was sure Gorbie wrote it somewhere ...Tarax the Terrible wrote:Okay then we have a big character at very violent. I once had wizzies come down and ask me if I am really fine with leaving several of my corpses at the giants in Sparkle ... after a while the whole Lars/Death scene is (was?) cut down to "You again? (...)" + instant return to pick corpseTarax the Terrible wrote:They COULD suicide to go backwards be on recovery and problem solved... But seems backwards to kill yourself intentionally..?

But remember some guilds don't penalise you or you can get out of the penalty. Just a side point.
Re: A separate brute for guild exp
point taken - didn't think about it
http://www.genesismud.org/news/common/25 - the recovery by guild leaving info btw.
I know you know, but I got some proof that I knew what I was writing about

Re: A separate brute for guild exp
I don't think its a problem that people have to kill themselves, if they wish to gain more advantages in their new guild faster.
You have to sacrifice some to gain some.
And if you don't want that sacrifice, you won't get the benefits from more guild exp.
I personally like the way it is now.

Re: A separate brute for guild exp
I have no plan on killing myself btw...
Just going to hardcore it, for all those playing in this day and age there is plenty of that hardcore spirit about.
I hate to see someone who dies a lot become uber in guild exp.
But that is how it is.
Creed... Don't take this the wrong way. But you play a lot of seconds right?
So you want something different you hop on to one of them.
I don't play seconds so maybe feel this more than those who do.

Re: A separate brute for guild exp
The downside of what you're mentioning here Tarax (die -> go get gexp -> repeat) is that your character is basically 'locked in time' as you're just repeating the dumb circle of dying and grinding. And to what ends? To have more guildstat? In my eyes, it's a lot of time wasted for little gain as you could get similar guildstat without dying, sure it would get more time but at least your character would keep growing and participating in other activities than perma-grind.
I fear no evil for I am fear incarnate.
