Welcome to Genesis! This is a brief tutorial to help you get started with the popular fantasy LPmud Genesis. If you don't know what Genesis is, then feel free to visit the Genesis LPmud Web Site. There you'll find an explanation of the whole thing. Here you will find helpful tips on how to play Genesis, and LPmuds in general.
We'll start off with some basic things that will get you moving around and functional in a basic way, and then we'll move on to some more complicated issues of life in Genesis. Finally, we'll cover skills, stats, advancement and guild membership. By the time you're done here, you should be well prepared for life on Genesis.
But first we'll deal with some conventions. For examples of game text I will use a monospace font. Occasionally it will be inline, like this, but most often it will be a separate block-level element
like this.
Lines preceded with the greater-than character (>) indicate lines that the user should enter. The greater-than character is the Genesis command prompt. In my examples, lines following the command lines will be the output that Genesis returns when one enters the preceding command. The following is an example:
> say Hello, my name is Arin. You say: Hello, my name is Arin.
The first line is the command line, and the second line is the output. Note, of course, that you should not actually type the > character. That is just there to indicate that you should type in what follows it.
On with the tutorial!

Starting out
Take a look here before you even log on to Genesis. Herein are some things you may wish to consider. |
|
TFM
Oh, my, it's The Fawking Manual! Actually, it's not; it is just an index of a few places to find on-line reference materials while playing Genesis. How convenient! |
|
Your first commands
Like a toddler's first steps? Not quite, but they're a few commands you may be glad you knew sooner rather than later. |
|
Moving
Now this is more like baby's first steps. How to move around. |
|
Communicating
And now that you're walking, let's try some talking! |
|
Objects and inventories
I want that sword! I want those coins! I want that steak! How do I get them? And once I've got them, what then? |
|
Fatigue
Now that you're walking and grabbing things, you'll find that fatigue limits both activities. Here's what it is and how to deal with it. |
|
Combat
Eventually you're going to get into a fight. Here are a few pointers on what to do and how to do it. |
|
Skills
Well, now that you've had your tail handed to you in a fight, you may want to look into some training. |
|
Stats
And, of course, being strong, fast and hardy won't hurt, either. |
|
Guilds
Of course, if you want to get really good at something, you're going to have to join a guild. |
