enizens of the Donut! The Balance Team is very pleased to finally be moving forward with some of the previously announced guild recodes. The delay has been the result of some rough waters in the wizard world which we've had to work through and then (for me at least) try to recover from. Balance issues, as I suppose you might be able to appreciate, are highly controversial! So ... having had my leg nearly blown off in our first dash through this minefield ... I am glad to finally have some good news to announce! The following guilds have been brought up-to-date, and are now running on the changed code: - Blademasters - Militia - Minotaurs - Pirates - Shieldbearers - Templar A big part of the recode effort deals with the fact that for the history of Genesis, the wheel has been reinvented over and over by each guild that wants to use a wheel (so to speak.) What this has lead to is many guilds using quite different methods to achieve the same effect (stun, damage, evade, etc.) What we have been doing is creating standardized ways of achieving these effects, centralizing them for use by all guilds, and then applying these standard methods to all guilds as we recode them. This doesn't mean that all guilds do the same thing at the same level, of course. Some guilds are far better at one thing than the others are. But, the gizmo now can chug a bit more harmoniously with such a centralized approach. Moreover, this makes things VASTLY easier to balance and tax. The other thing, which I suspect will be very much enjoyed by all playes in these guilds, is the fact that they have been brought up to the standard used by all the other guilds which have been recoded recently in terms of damage. All should notice a boost in their ability to deal damage via special attacks. Also, please be patient with the fact that balance is an ongoing process. All newly open guilds should be considered "working drafts" at this point. Yes, they have been reviewed and approved by the Balance Team. This does not mean, however, that they are "done." Obviously, if we find things that have been overlooked, improperly documented, or just that turn out quite wrong ... adjustments will be made to steer things back on course. Enjoy! More soon (fingers-crossed!) G.

The Balance Team is very pleased to finally be moving forward with some of the
previously announced guild recodes. The delay has been the result of some
rough waters in the wizard world which we've had to work through and then
(for me at least) try to recover from. Balance issues, as I suppose you might
be able to appreciate, are highly controversial! So ... having had my leg
nearly blown off in our first dash through this minefield ... I am glad to
finally have some good news to announce!
The following guilds have been brought up-to-date, and are now running on the
changed code:
- Blademasters
- Militia
- Minotaurs
- Pirates
- Shieldbearers
- Templar
A big part of the recode effort deals with the fact that for the history of
Genesis, the wheel has been reinvented over and over by each guild that wants
to use a wheel (so to speak.) What this has lead to is many guilds using
quite different methods to achieve the same effect (stun, damage, evade, etc.)
What we have been doing is creating standardized ways of achieving these
effects, centralizing them for use by all guilds, and then applying these
standard methods to all guilds as we recode them.
This doesn't mean that all guilds do the same thing at the same level, of
course. Some guilds are far better at one thing than the others are. But, the
gizmo now can chug a bit more harmoniously with such a centralized approach.
Moreover, this makes things VASTLY easier to balance and tax.
The other thing, which I suspect will be very much enjoyed by all playes in
these guilds, is the fact that they have been brought up to the standard used
by all the other guilds which have been recoded recently in terms of damage.
All should notice a boost in their ability to deal damage via special attacks.
Also, please be patient with the fact that balance is an ongoing process. All
newly open guilds should be considered "working drafts" at this point. Yes,
they have been reviewed and approved by the Balance Team. This does not mean,
however, that they are "done." Obviously, if we find things that have been
overlooked, improperly documented, or just that turn out quite wrong ...
adjustments will be made to steer things back on course.
Enjoy! More soon (fingers-crossed!)
