It is also interesting to note that Genesis continued to attract significant numbers of new players for years after the stat changes and when I started playing ( after the stat changes ) there were regularly 100+ people in the game. I have to agree on this "monkey horses" effect being very silly.

We already have some of these achievement markers in the game, of course. I like things such as the Rich Mens Club and Wise People, and the Crimson Kestrel. I think that the guilds and guild themes providing the players with meaningful activity can be a big factor.
Like MM assaulting Minas Tirith, Knights attacking raiding Sanction/Neraka etc. These things are always fun.
But it needs some guild membership numbers and leadership as well.
