It is also interesting to note that Genesis continued to attract significant numbers of new players for years after the stat changes and when I started playing ( after the stat changes ) there were regularly 100+ people in the game. I have to agree on this "monkey horses" effect being very silly.

There are some realism issues that disturb the viewer more than others.

We already have some of these achievement markers in the game, of course. I like things such as the Rich Mens Club and Wise People, and the Crimson Kestrel. Things that are like clubs and have an individual feel to show off some heroic or unusual achievement. Its got more atmosphere than an xbox-sty...

I think that the guilds and guild themes providing the players with meaningful activity can be a big factor.

Like MM assaulting Minas Tirith, Knights attacking raiding Sanction/Neraka etc. These things are always fun.

But it needs some guild membership numbers and leadership as well.
