Using Voice Commands for Genesis

Computer. Tea. Hot.

The idea occurred to me that I'm so frequently typing the same commands that voice commands could be used instead. I installed Dragon NaturallySpeaking Pro software, trained it with genesis commands I frequently used and, sure enough, I just geared up, took ships to Terel, killed about ten trolls and made it back to Calia... all without typing except to further train the program to get me there and back!

It's definitely a new way to do things, and I think I'll play this way many days. I used the official client with Chrome.

Problems:
* Does not work well with other voices in the room
* The pro version of the software must be used for step-by-step commands, including keystrokes (like "enter")
* Typos

Possibilities:
* Voice commanded scripts (i.e. "run to roundabout")
* Cell phone / tablet usage (I wish we could expand the player-base to mobile users, but typing is too hard)
* Future computer development will make this technology commonplace

Yes, it is fun. Game-changer!

This sounds really cool, but $99 for the software is a bit steep.

Excellent work. Sometimes you need things like this to spice up the monotony of kill, loot, next room, repeat.

Imagine face of your wife/girlfriend seeing you at computer saying

Yes, something to do while the wife is asleep, for sure! With other voices interfering with the software, it's something best done by oneself. It can be scripted almost as well as cmud though, I think. I'm not great at coding scripts, though there is an easy step-by-step script designer.

Yes, the software is rather pricey. I think it's mostly used by people who hate / can't do typing or medical professionals who need to constantly be entering information into data systems.

This was a fun idea so I added voice recognition to the Web Client.
It should work in Chrome.

The results are not so good for basic commands, long sentences seem to work better.
Alot more work could be done on the interaction between keyboard and voice input.

Imagine your own face when She is passing near you and saying loudly: south, quit.

When you're battling trolls in Terel? She could simply say "drop all, come to bed" and you would be done for ;)

for people who have a IOS (iphone) 5 it has voice recognition software built in. if you use pocket mud or the official client on your phone.

there is a little microphone icon near the space bar and you can use it to call out commands.
it is not very good with things that are not words so it may be hard to use aliases and stuf that needs special symbols like ~d 12 or passwords

siri insists on capitalizing directions such as south. and has pritty meh voice recogition in trying to go south i managed to get South .... salsa .... self .... and sort. but it is free with newer iphones... however you get what you pay for.
