I brought this to the attention of the AoP team and worked through several things with them over an hour or two. In the end, we came away with a good understanding of WHAT is happening and how to reproduce it, but not solution was reached yet (obviously). Last I heard, a few different wizards were taking a look at it.

It sounds like it might be a bug with how darkness is applied when it enter/leaves inventory. Which guild rack do you use if I may ask?

Do note though, I don't drop darkness weapons into racks. I usually carry them around in close pack and that's how I drop them off when I log out. Same happened to me numerous times with my merc character as well.

Hey folks,

I noticed something odd today and it might be related to this "darkness" bug. When did everyone first notice this bug?

First mention of it that I can recall was on the Discord a little before the original post here.
So sometime between the 10th and 25th of May.

EDIT: Just scrolled through the Discord and the first mention I can find of it is on the 14th of May.

Happened to me again with glads racks, logged this time. Didn't have darkness items, glowing helm instead.
Posting entire log from the point I've dropped to the point it became dark.

Code: Select all

> open pack
You open the weather-worn leather backpack.
> get all from pack
You get a black bandana from your weather-worn leather backpack (open).
> put weapons in rack
You stop wielding the black heavy battleaxe.
You put a black heavy battleaxe into the solid wooden axe rack.
> put armours in closet
You remove the hooded silvery robe.
You remove the glowing holy helm.
The runes on the armour dim down to a black color.
You remove the ancient mithril chainmail.
You remove the pair of steel-clad black boots.
You remove the pair of black steel-plated gloves.
You remove the pair of sturdy black bracers.
You remove the pair of sturdy black greaves.
The silver serpentine ring cannot be dropped.
You put a black bandana, a hooded silvery robe, a glowing holy helm, an ancient
mithril chainmail, a pair of steel-clad black boots, a pair of black steel-
plated gloves, a pair of sturdy black bracers and a pair of sturdy black
greaves into the armour closet.
> put items in chest
You remove the weather-worn leather backpack (open).
You cannot be rid of this unless you leave the Red Fang Guild.
Ouch! It's too painful to drop.
The gnomish spyglass cannot be dropped.
The silver serpentine ring cannot be dropped.
The staff of Aeria cannot be dropped.
You need to keep your lapidarium!
You feel unable to part with it.
You don't want to drop your disguise kit!
The big heavy stick cannot be dropped.
You may <lose> the silver mermaid ring if you want, but you may not drop it.
No! You would never give such a beauty out of your hands!
Throw away such a useful thing as the magic map? If you really want to, you may
<discard> it.
You put six copper coins, eight silver coins, a big bottle, a weather-worn
leather backpack (open), many gold coins, two flasks of oil and an iron oil-
lamp into the huge stone supply chest.
> get coins from chest
You get many gold coins, eight silver coins and six copper coins from the huge
stone supply chest.
> exa rack
This rack is obviously meant to hold the axes prized by the Gladiators of
Athas. Their are slots for axes of all all different shapes and sizes, even
those of exotic type.
You may <sort axe rack> to organize the contents.
The solid wooden axe rack contains two black heavy battleaxes, two blunted
long-handled axes, two runed axes, an ancient double-bladed waraxe, a broad
axe, a bloodstained mithril waraxe, two huge dwarven waraxes, four bloody steel
axes, a short-hafted steel waraxe, a silver lochaber battleaxe and a hefty
broad-bladed axe.
> exa closet
This closet has hooks for storing armours of all different shapes and sizes.
While the hooks are iron it is likely that stealing them in so public a place
would only earn you a quick death.
You may <sort armour closet> to organise the contents.
The armour closet contains five pairs of sturdy black greaves, many pairs of
sturdy black bracers, a pair of black steel-plated gloves, two pairs of steel-
clad black boots, four ancient mithril chainmails, two glowing holy helms, two
hooded silvery robes, a black bandana, a glowing holy platemail, a silver
spiked targa, two pairs of solamnic gauntlets, a pair of black leather boots, a
short gray cloak, a shredded death shroud, a dark black helmet, a rigid
chainmail, a heavy steel platemail, a pair of steel bracers, an ancient steel
helmet, a pair of dark greaves, a silky black robe, a black war-helm, a
chainmail hood, a solamnic helm, a short black tunic, a long silver cloak, a
solamnic chainmail, two dragon turtle shells, a black leather boots, two rough
burlap shirts, a sleeping shirt, a black cloak, a blue dragonscale armour, a
beat-up grey scrapmail, a long purple cape, a bulky iron chainmail, a pair of
leather boots, a studded leather armour and a black studded mail.

Hi folks, next time this happens can you please also note the date and time of the occurrence? Just copy and paste the output from the "date" command in game. I think I found the cause of the problem and need corroborate the incidences with our log.
