A Friendly Discussion with a Mage

Post by Amorana » 28 Nov 2013 08:11

Code: Select all

The chart reads:

I, Ebenestus, wish to employ the services of any who would aid me. Mine is
the task to learn in full the anatomies of all creatures who walk, crawl,
fly, or slither in the many realms. For this, I require assistance, and
will reward handsomely those who prove useful.

To assist me, you may <ask> for a scalpel. Which will allow you to
<procure> a necrabellum from any dead creature. A necrabellum is a
little-known organ that those of my trade use to catalog essential
information on life forms. Bring me any necrabellum you procure, <show>
them to me, and I will reward you if they are worthy specimens.

Credits will be awarded if your sample meets these "new info" criteria.
    - Each race (e.g. "wolf", "moose", "elf") you have not yet shown me
    - Each realm of origin for a given race (e.g. wolf from Gondor,
wolf from Avenir - worth one credit each.)

PAYMENT CHART:

Credits earned for "new info" Reward
========================================================================
  10 credits .......................... 10 platinum coins
  20 credits .......................... nullstone (value: 25 plats)
30 credits .......................... random "ordinary" stone
50 credits .......................... "ordinary" stone of your choice
75 credits .......................... random "unblemished" stone
100 credits .......................... fantastic progress in general xp
========================================================================

Important: If you should earn your fantastic progress reward by amassing
100 credits, you may continue onward as if you were starting over. 110
credits would get you another 10 platinum coins, on up to 200 where you
would earn another fantastic progress. This will continue until you have
run out of new things you can find, which I estimate might be around
500-600 credits in the end, if our realms are as diverse as I suspect.

Additionally, I seek swift results, and will therefore sweeten the pot
by granting additional incentives for those who wish to work quickly. The
above reward scale is measured on your own efforts, meaning that each
person who wishes to assist me has equal access to the same credit
score and rewards. However, If you are the FIRST person who has ever
shown me certain things, I will award you a small dose of quest
experience. The things I will award quest experience for include:

   - The first time I have ever been shown a specific race.
   - The first time a specific race has been found in a particular land.
   - Breaking a record for the largest or smallest creature ever
     sampled of a given race.

This last one has vast potential for reward, as there is vast variety
in the sizes of each race within the lands. Thus, bringing in many
examples of an "orc from Gondor" might break the record for being the
biggest or smallest (in mortal level) I have ever seen again and again
if the samples continue to vary beyond what I have yet been shown.

To begin, simply <ask> me for a scalpel.

Ebenestus,
Scholar of the Anatomical Sciences

A black-robed hooded male wraith arrives.
The black-robed hooded male wraith is, to your dismay and terror, suddenly
aware of your presence!
Your face blanches fearfully.
The black-robed hooded male wraith leers creepily at you with the unholy light
of corruption in his eyes.
The black-robed hooded male wraith hisses to you: Good to see you helping our
friend here....
The black-robed hooded male wraith gestures indifferently at the frail cloaked
man.
You chuckle politely.
You say: If you believe I assist this being...
The black-robed hooded male wraith hisses: I knew there was hope for you...
You say: Then you are sorely mistaken.
The black-robed hooded male wraith begins a hissing chant and a ball of black
fog appears in his hand.
You feel your hair rising as the fog slowly blows into your direction while it
disperses.
You rise to your full height and show everyone your goddesslike beauty and
majesty.
The black-robed hooded male wraith hisses: I will leave you to your dark
service.
The black-robed hooded male wraith's eyes flicker with dark amusement like
brightly glowing embers.
The black-robed hooded male wraith glares at the frail cloaked man haughtily,
hissing: Hail Melkor!
You body tenses with the holy power of Psuchae as you focus your attention on
the soulless body of the black-robed hooded male wraith.
The black-robed hooded male wraith hisses to you: You will come to your sense
'ere long.
You say: We shall see who has the final laugh in my... how you say... "service"
unto this being. I shall undo his work, if it is the last I do.
The black-robed hooded male wraith hisses: Or consumed by it.
The black-robed hooded male wraith hisses: It will be interesting to watch....
The black-robed hooded male wraith hisses: There is much honor in this work.
You say: Perhaps one day, it shall be you consumed... In the divine grace of
the Fifth. There is already one servant of the tower redeemed in Its graces.
The black-robed hooded male wraith reflects darkly.
You say: It is not too late for you, no matter how far you have fallen.
The black-robed hooded male wraith hisses: This 'fifth' means naught to me.
The black-robed hooded male wraith hisses: In my less mature days, I was among
those you would consort with.
The black-robed hooded male wraith hisses: But I've ascended. You can as well.
You say: Ah, but there you are. It shall mean everything unto you, when you
have been redeemed... Or perhaps, absolved.
You ask the frail cloaked man: scalpel
The frail cloaked man gives you a pale scalpel.
The frail cloaked man says: Use this to <procure> the necrabellum from any
corpse you find, and bring them back to me. If what you bring me is something
you have not shown me before, you will earn credit towards the rewards listed
on the chart, here.
The black-robed hooded male wraith looks grimly at you, pleased with your
services to the Dark Lord.
The black-robed hooded male wraith hisses: Be careful... this kind of thing
is...addictive.
The black-robed hooded male wraith hisses: Good luck in your labors.
You say: My labors will be his undoing. And yours.

Thanks for that, whoever you were. It was fun, if brief. I don't often get to interact with your type these days. But with more of you around more often as of late, perhaps it will become a more regular occurrence.
