Some updates:

Progress on the imbuement system is coming along very nicely! Lavellan continues to dazzle with his speed and excellence as a coder, and he has produced most of the "infrastructure" that will help govern how imbuements work in the game. Huge thanks to him for this! If I had done it myself, this post would have come somewhere in the Summer of next year. :|

The imbuement system will be very much thematically tied to "goings on" in and around Sparkle. A deep lore will exist structurally in the imbuement system itself, as well as in the story that governs the whole affair. To support this story, and in conjunction with the needs for more newbie-friendly content near Sparkle, I've been cooking up a dungeon that will:
  • Provide context and storyline for the imbuement phenomenon
  • Include over 100 rapid-spawning npcs for small players to grind
  • Include 4 or 5 new quests that tie-in to the imbuement system
  • Have lots of amusing easter-eggs for players who enjoy looking for that sort of thing.
  • Fully support the magic map.
The dungeon is 95% complete, and the quests are all but finished. The imbuement system is 99% complete, and awaits a few final touches. We are on track to roll out in the next month or so, at this rate! Many thanks to Lavellan, and to Petros who created some very important underlying code that the imbuement system is now also making use of.

I can't wait! :D

Woho! Go Lavellan. He's like the new superhero type of wizard, comes from nowhere, nobody knows who he is, but he write codes like... like... batman!

Guess sometimes it is better to keep comments for yourself than making them public. Sorry for those who felt hurt, especially Gorboth and Lavellan (who I know works hard because he has sent me over a dozen mails with fixes from reports I had done over six years ago and nobody had the time to check them).

Keep up the threads and the ideas coming, the community needs them. I can always be found in the game. Ciao.

Just a bit more of a teaser for the upcoming rollout of imbuements. The following is the opening statements from the balance documentation that is being finalized for the imbuement system.

Code: Select all

+--------------------------+
| Statement of Philosophy: |
+--------------------------+

People love random chances for rewards - Las Vegas is standing proof. This
project has been a method to introduce into Genesis a constant and varied
way for players to feel like every kill of a monster is a pull at the slot
machine - one more random chance for an unknown fun reward.

People also love collecting. This system of imbuement will create a whole
new type of collecting based on an economy of imbuement potential.

Additionally, people *really* love magic and rarely accessible powers.
The ability to wield a power that only appears in the game during a
blue moon is exciting and fun. Such effects we allow to be unbalanced
perhaps even to the point of pushing the limits of the game due to the
fact that they are so rare and unsustainable.

Finally, many people love lore and crafting-mastery. This system will
introduce into the game a rich and varied world of colorful magic that
players will have the opportunity to recognize at-a-glance, and craft
at will.
Closer and closer to a reality every day! :-)

Guys - let's reserve judgment on the whole quest dimension until we see how it rolls out. It definitely a new and exciting part of the game and people have been working really hard on it, so I'm optimistic.

Once we see them in action, then we can see if there is something to grouse about ;-)
