Another old one.

You used to be able to change money to platinum with a 2.7% fee (not collected often)
It was the casino in Re-Albi. You bet in any coin but the winnings were paid in platinum. So if you bet on red and black at the same time 12 gold each you got 2 platinum coins as the winnings. I think they had a zero in there too, hence the 2.7% tax, on average if it ever came up. But I don't remember it ever happening.

That is why the casino was changed to using chips. Bet gold chips win gold chips.

Bildor also managed to pull off a progressive betting spree which made him the RMC pres ahead of Monika. There was no table limit so if you lost you could double your bet and keep doing so until you one. At which point you made double your original stake. You just have to have enough coins to cover a run of bad luck, which gets expensive quickly. He made a few thousand plats and was discovered by the wizzies but got to keep the cash. A few thousand plats was LOT of money back then. Not sure if they fixed this but guess they did put a limit maybe or just influence luck on progressive betters.

I discovered as a newbie buying drinks in gypsy camp and selling them in town nearby could turn a profit. But it was tiring to run back and forward for not a huge gain. I used it to make a little cash for skills then got bored. I would not consider that to be a bug exploit, more someone finding a trade route. I guess the problem is when its the same shop and you spam it.

I remember the ruby amulet from holm could be used to recover mana fast. It had a downside of infecting your brain with visions etc and you could not remove or drop it. But I saw overly cunning players wear it, spam mana regen, then put it in a scrip. Since that command got around the you cannot remove it idea. I bug reported it and believe it was fixed.

I was also told before that you can use another bug to eat herbs for free. Something about trying to eat two, managing to eat one and quickly putting them back in your container. Never tried it, but maybe the 2 versus one gets around the downside of the Booger principle where you had to sell them.

Another one was the Tulwar from the newly expanded Harradrim camp. It was an absolutely uber sword, you could do better with it than a runed falchion. Made quite a stir on its arrival and you saw a lot of people using it. Then one day I saw a gladiator using it and thought wtf.

I tested it out a little and found it was actually doing damage on misses.

I bug reported it and it was removed.
Which is the annoying side of reporting a bug, its was a cool weapon, someone's hard work and its just gone. I know that wizzies may not have time to fix others code and its easier to remove, but still I would have liked to have seen it fixed and re-introduced. Otherwise it can put you off making reports in the future.

Ahh! Great to hear someone with a few tales of old!

Using the casino to change money was a very nice move.

Using it to increase your money shouldn't work, though, unless it has a bug. The method you describe sounds foolproof, but if you do some calculations, you'll find out that if you try to double your money with that method, you'll have almost 50% chance of succeeding, and slightly above 50% risk that you'll run into a bad-luck streak long enough to make you broke. So putting all your money on red would be just as (un)safe, and a lot faster. So I'm glad he got to keep his cash - he earned them.

Buying something and selling for profit... You'd be surprised how fast it goes if you use triggers, or even just copy-paste. Even if you have to walk a bit between seller and buyer. Last one I reported, you gain just half a silver per item, but when stress-testing it, this meant 350pc per minute.

As I understand you're back, after some time of absence, I suggest you check out the Sparkle Enchanter, if you haven't already, and his quests. If nothing else, those quests are very well made and fun to solve. And maybe you'll find some nice ways to use that amulet of diminution... it's got potential.
Who knows, maybe I'll be waiting for you by the entrance of the dungeon, ready to attack you as you put on that amulet and become an easy target? (an interesting possibility for a lowbie to kill a myth)

Yeah the progressive betting is reasonably high risk but if you are dedicated you can make it work. ie if you start at 4 plats outlay 4 on black, you need to have a least 2048 plats in reserve to cover a run of 9 straight losses. So if you start smaller you make less each time but have a better margin.

Right now that doesn't sound like very good pc/hr but then it was enough incentive for him to spend days doing it, no triggers.

Thanks for the tip about the Sparkle quests.
I tried them and they are presently the best quests in the game.
They do not have the puzzle side of some like the zodiac, but the back story and theme is fantastic and they are so well presented, making fantastic use of the magic map and enough tips that you don't get stuck and give up.
IMO this sets the high bar for what we should want out of all our quests.

abusable feature in the past: Rockfriend emote "grip"
you could grip any weapon and it worked as if you really wielded it ... but you didn't
example:
"grip long narrow knife" while you had already both hands occupied resulted in having it's bonuses available
"grip RMW" while you had already both hands occupied resulted in having it's bonus AND you could repeat it

it worked as long you carried the weapon to "grip" (afaik), so you COULD as a Rockfriend "grip" a runed falchion (multiple times) + bloody steel axe (crystal wasn't introduced back then as far I can remember) + defender (multiple times if mana permited) + RMW (multiple times) + long narrow knife + ... and stack yourself up as much you wanted
don't remember exactly, but I think the specials from the "grip'ed" but not really wielded weapons fired in combat as well, so "grip" runed falchion + maul  ... if maul's code wasn't "broken" back then and it didn't break anything

another: large pile of loot to graduate from Cadets without training nor exp
Cadet graduation was (is?) based on skills trained & exp gained & value of eq racked
racking the large pile of loot from Kabal resulted in immediate highest rank title, making graduation possible - it's value is quite through the roof and I was always disgruntled I couldn't sell it

Right! Forgot that we have one wield/wear bug like that still, unless it's been fixed:
Wear snakeskin gloves with slay-<your-race> imbuement. You'll take some damage and automatically remove them, but the +10 unarmed combat bonus stays.
It's not stackable, and I don't know which bonuses you can keep from it, how long the bonus stays or how this could best be abused. It doesn't feel extremely abusable, since you need to get a slay-your-race on the weapon, but maybe there are items out there that would make this an interesting feature?

Snake skin would if you could retain the extra damage then wear bear claws, cesti, or best of all flaming gloves.

Would probably be most abusable on boots/legs since there are ones to raise defence, raise dex, raise haste + fatigue regen and finally unarmed damage but never seen those to work so well. But yeah probably to impractical to gather those then add slay race.

Never experimented much with this but the packs sold in Palanthas were and probably still are bugged where you could put other packs inside them and therefore stack the weight reduction of multiple packs.

Would be interesting to experiment with 10 packs and all the coins you could carry to see how far you could reduce encumbrance. ie put coins in pack;put pack in second pack x10

I liked to use this but not in a cheaty way so didn't report it.
I used it to help consolidate items in one thing to drop and pick up later.

If it is fixed would like to see a zero weight reduction pack somewhere which allows you to do the same thing.

I wonder if an auto wielding npc ever spawned with slay race would they kill themselves. Or if you drop a slay them weapon in front of them could you kill them as they will pick it up and try to use it.

Some guilds can gather perks they missed by taking a magic weapon to one of those same npcs who upgrades their weapon if they find something better and then kill that npc.

I don't think this one is bad and should be stopped, it is a fringe benefit for having good knowledge of the game and how things can be used. (that is what makes Gen interesting afterall)

When it was bad is when the weapon they used was unbreakable so it could be repeated again and again and again.

Ever wonder why the sledge of the colossus was changed Ogres?
Thats why.
