Rhaegar wrote: Do you really think that people would go such lengths as setting up proxy connections and what not (since you can't double-log into Genesis from one IP any more) to do that? Also, having to level up new chars and use them for extended periods of time to obtain gear would put your myth chars out of the grind race.

Why always assume that everyone is going to cheat and lie all the time? Put some trust into people.

And I don't think that people contacting each other outside of the game to schedule things to happen in the game is bad. If our playerbase would be larger it would be nice to see guild forums and stuff pop up.
You're not John Snow and yet you know nothing. Peculiar, isn't it?

They never were, not even when BDA opened. Stop pretending you are some ancient all-knowing person, dude.
Let's see ...
He probably played BDA when noone did, but that surely wasn't when BDA opened. Considering the time+effort he puts into his chars' growth, he was probably unable to get anything better than those splendid swords himself, so he's judging based on his own experience.
BDA before recode was the shit (doubleslash ftw!) and noone used anything worse than runed falchions, JBS, shintors, obsidians etc. (except for Ranger fights). Worst case scenario were crimsons but only as spares.
With fond memories of Mozart, Caerid, Thalamus, Mariuz, Line, Krewl, Monika, Murdock or less fond of Allure or Fisthlandus.

Why do you have to be so hostile about everything? If I made an error you can simply point it out and clarify matters instead of turning it into personal remarks. BDA library clearly mentions splendid swords as being rack worthy (I know, I used to be DA librarian although I was in RDA). And what do you care about the time and effort I put into my character's growth? I'm not n-teen years old any more and between my job and family I don't have as much time as I used to. Not that I care much but this is also why I think new mortal titles were a bad idea. Within the old system Rhaegar would be champion for some time now and be done with growing.

I'm confident this quote pretty much sums up your "knowledge" about Genesis, that you so generously use to build your stories/theories/assumptions on.
Now that you showed us how you get your info, let me paste you how I get mine - at least a tiny example of it:

Please help me by pointing me to the splendid sword section ...?

How does it change anything? I know that splendid swords are shitty but they are mentioned in the library (weapons of at least splendid sword quality) so I assumed they used to be good back in the day (when Tantallon was Neraka or something like that). I only came to Genesis in like 1997 or 98 so I don't know what was going on before that. If it was anything like Arkadia, when there were 2 OCC guilds, 1 LAY and there were full-fledged wars between racial guilds as there were very few people in OCC. People were using ordinary equipement for that and I guess that Genesis' beginnings weren't all that much different.

If we want to continue to dedicate thread space to questioning Rhaegar's knowledge in this manner, and with this tone, please take it to the Flame section.

Splendid swords were decent back in the day.

Nowadays it isn't worth getting because Kernan, Loran, or Baxter drop better swords and are just as easy to kill.

Thanks for the sword info though!

Bluebolt looks interesting.

It's single-use though, which makes it that much less interesting. Usually it ends up lying in the racks because people keep thinking that "I'm gonna use it on this mob I have trouble with" and then they're like "naah, I'll save it for something REALLY tough" and keep putting it away ad infinitum.

Yeah lets keep the personal attack to minimum shall we? The forum has been pretty friendly lately, lets keep it that way.

Regarding splendid swords, when I started in 96/97 splendid swords were indeed used. For a smallish squire like me they were actually pretty good. Solamnian broadsword and Draconian Claymore were great. Runies and Kit's sabre were swords you dreamed about and sometimes seeing in the racks and hoping one day you too could use them. JBS was not allowed as a knight but it was one of the more legendary swords. Those were the true elite swords, and they still rank high. There were much more players, less "grinding areas" (being lucky enough to find dragonarmy guards in Flotsam alive was great XP) and in general a smaller world with less great weapons. It meant only a small part of the population used the great weapons, and most people had to settle for what was only "decent", like Solamnian for instance, Huge waraxe, Bubba polearm, etc. Splendid swords was probably worst case scenario for a sword user, used until you found something a bit better, but definitely used. Especially by smaller characters.

When DA opened they quickly turned into an elite PVP guild when the a lot of former AAs joined. People who were not only known for size and PVP-skill, but also for collecting EQ. I can imagine the DA racks were really good compared to many other guilds. Which has been true when the BDA has been active recently too. Now with more or less only Bromen awake they're probably back to using splendid swords. :p

Ouch!

For someone asking for peace on here, you sure know how to jab. ;)

The DA racks are just fine. Lots of sexy equipment to drool over muhahaha!

Yeah well - I still remember Becher almost exploding with excitement when he got his hands on the MBB as gladiator ...
