Non-flamey Size Discussion

Well..the discussion in the flames kinda..degenerated.. I figured it would be good to have the same discussion in a moderated place.

Look. As I said in the other thread some sort change needs to take place. I'm just going to reposte what I said in the other thread..edited a bit:
I've been biting my tongue for a long time on this subject. Look. I love Genesis. I love the rp. The community (for the most part..). The guilds. All the fun it's brought me. I'm not the biggest true newbie in the last two years, no. But you know what I am?

You are 134 days 9 hours 7 minutes 38 seconds of age.

I'm the oldest and I'm sick of having so little to show for it. My game time isn't spent grinding and questing all hours of the day, it's spend roleplaying and interacting with people. Granted, I do do a lot of hunting and questing. But after two years of playing this game, lots of roleplaying and all I have to show for it is being hero?

I'm going to say something that few want to admit. If a player can spend so many hours playing this game and they only get to Hero then this game is broken! It's so broken that it's driving players AWAY from the game! I've lost friends because once you hit a certain level you're stuck there! you hit the Hero/Titan wall and your stuck.

What do you have to show for it after all that hard work? Well, you can't PvP against with most people you'd need to, for me it's DAs. After so many hours of the game I'm only Hero. Now, thankfully I've got lots of friends to help me, quest walkthroughs, and all that. But what about those who don't? They're stuck. They can't grow, they can't rp because a myth can just squash them!

I love this game. But you know what gets tiring? The fact it's broken to the point I can't even rp a character I love being so much because I can't stand against any of my enemies.

I've heard people shout "Stat Cap!" for two years. I KNOW it's been said way longer then that. I've discussed it with many other players. We want a cap! We want the playing field leveled! I know wizards have some ideas about how to do it! Why don't they?

1. PvP rules suck. A clear newbie gets two shotted by a super myth excuses get made and wizards end up doing NOTHING!

2. Clear size differences. People of guild A get hunted to death by guild B and it's okay because they're natural enemies.

The community wants a stat cap, or some sort of leveling of the playing field.

Making the levelling process easier isn't an option for you? Pissing off the older players is?

There's a reasonable suggestion. That plus a cap is very acceptable. I'll take it.

Theres a reason 95% of rpg games have a hard cap. Because it works and having no hard cap.... doesnt work.

You say pissing off old players is what it is, when will the older generation understand that they are 40+ years old and should be looking for whats best for the game to survive for another 20 as the majority of you will either be dead or long forgot about this.

When does the game stop catering to those who just want the satisfaction of fame and recognition for their endless time running a script so that the new generation can find the same fun you once did?

Understand, the newbies do not care one bit for this setup and if that isnt alarming then youve quit caring about this game a long long time ago. Very few bother to stick around long enough to even hit Titan without extensive hand holding.

Increasing the rate that someone grows is no different then a patch on the main problem which is the game has far outgrown the content once again. And as we all know someone has to be there to code new content. If new blood is not flowing throw the game there will be no one in 20 more years to keep pumping out new content with the ever growing stats.

I would rather see a cap and have those who are still around or willing to code to not be worried about creating bigger and better so that this loop repeats itself once we again outgrow that content, but instead be able to focus on new end game content that can keep a player interested long after they have reached that cap.

Baloney, there are AAA titles out there with no hard cap. Streamlining the leveling process with a softcap is very much a viable solution.

Which? I believe its definitely a step in the right direction, but I still think we would fall into the same loop 10-15-20 years down the road.

I mean I dont have any numbers to show but I wonder if someone like Irk continued at his pace how far ahead of the game he would be in 10 years?

Go play those then. This discussion is about Genesis.

By that rationale Genesis shouldn't emulate any good ideas from any other games.

Chill people. The thread-o-bot has already started chopping at this thread. It's obviously a touchy subject, but it's very possible to have a reasonable productive discussion about it I think?

For me it's obvious the the gap between the new and old generation of players is a problem. And it is a problem that it takes a new player many years to even have a chance at competing, or cooperating for that matter, with the older big players. When I started playing it took perhaps half a year or so to become champion, the highest title, and by then you could be a vital part of any guild, and engage in PVP conflicts without being cannon fodder. It IS a problem.

Finding a solution that everyone will like is probably very hard. No matter what, someone will be unhappy. We have discussed all sorts of ways many times. Steeper soft caps, hard caps, stat nerf, growth boost and combinations of them, or of course leave things as they are. There's both positive and negative sides to all of them. It's always been "old" players and/or wizards discussing though, and I'd love to hear more from our new generation of players. Because like Ody said, in order for Genesis to survive, we need to keep new players coming, and we need them to stay.

I actually agree that it would be a good idea to implement a change like the one Ody mentioned.
