If you were to take Weis or Hickman on a tour of Krynn...

I occasionally follow the conversations of Margaret Weis and Tracey Hickman - the authors of the Dragonlance Chronicles where the world of Krynn is based from - on Goodreads where they engage with their fan base, and I sometimes wonder what it would be like taking them a tour of Krynn in Genesis.

I'd like to throw it out to the community - if you were to take them on a tour, what would be your tour focus?

If you were to let them run wild in the domain, what parts of the experience would you think are currently out of place with their concepts, or needs tidying up (such as mapping, or moving of the gnomes out of the Solace region to Mount Nevermind etc) or possibly enhancing?

Good question!

You already mentioned this, but we Gnomes need a real home, and not this temporary (for decades now) replacement mountain!
Also something small that seemed a bit odd to me was the placement of Wayreth to Qualinost and Pax Tharkas. Wayreth is supposed to further south and much much further away from Pax, right?

If I were to show the authors some of Krynn in Genesis, I would probably show them Vingaard Keep and let them experience an attack on it (Not by Angmar but by the BDA NPCs).
Also let them see Solace and Palanthas both very iconic to the stories. Plus Palanthas is probably amongst the best developed areas of Krynn.

I think I'd show them the Muffin Quest. That has such good humour and captures the flavor of things really nicely.

I'd let them do the Secret Society entrance quest (with some assistance if needed) and then let them take the rest of the Krynn tour as Kenders, I think they would love that experience. I would definitely make sure to include a Vingaard Keep attack by Kitiara as well. I also think the entrance to Pax Tharkas, with the slug and the old tomb and undead warriors would be nice to show. I read the books quite recently (because Arman made me), and I think that part is very true to the books, and captures exactly the same uneasy feeling. Well, before everyone became huge, but when you were smaller it was quite scary!

Actually, my experience from Genesis made me able to predict what would happen in the books quite well, especially the first book, which was kind of fun. But to be honest I don't t hink the books lived up my expectation from Genesis! Of course, had I read the books first I might have felt the other way. I feel the same way about the Lord of the Rings though. I prefer the Genesis version. Although I am comparing with the movies now, I never read the books, except "The Hobbit". *gasp*

My exact words!

Interestingly, it was my love of the Dragonlance novels that got me interested in exploring Genesis in the first place... so kind of the opposite experience to Cherek. Mind I do like that he enjoyed the 'world of Dragonlance' without understanding the underlying narrative that spawned it... to me it means the domain was a success at being a sandbox for players to make there own stories and adventures!

Spot on re:Wayreth forest... it should be to the south/southwest of Qualinesti forest... although for the foreseeable future that won't be something that gets moved. It is a forest that is known to magically 'move around', so that will be my justification for keeping it where it is :).

I really like Palanthas too. It is a beautifully detailed city.
