Items gallery idea

Post by Pasha » 08 May 2017 20:08

Greetings the habitants of Genesis!

How about an idea of creation an image gallery of items ?

We could start from most common ones with the goal to have pictures of ALL items.
This will be infinite process - each picture should be accepted by the community and can be replaced by another more successful one.

Please leave your opinions.

I'm not sure I understand, Pasha. Are you talking about an image drawn in ascii for each item of the game? Or ... ?

It could be a kind of web-based regular image-gallery.
Would be good to check a look of an item.

+ Together with coding new items the author could submit a picture of it

If I were a proper artist I'd be down for this..
Could be really cool if done right.

But what is the goal - to display these images to players via the client while they play or something? If so - no, we won't be doing that. We are a text-based old-school mud and proud of it. Graphic images are not what we wish to aim for.

But maybe I'm still not understanding your goal?

Not in the game or client of course (the text based and digitless paradigm is that what excites a lot )

This idea could be useful for items that don't immediately call up images for esp. new players, like "brigandine," for example. But I don't know that we need to furnish an image for every single item. Of course if people want to work on images for, say, a pair of green steel greaves, have at it I guess.

A newbie finds a "long ornate pulwar" and has no idea what such a thing is.

Hmm ... "All is lost!!" he screams.

But wait. There is a magic command - so simple. So powerful.

Code: Select all

> exa pulwar
This is a long ornate pulwar, the preferred blade of Haradrim soldiers. The
blade is long and slightly curved and slimmer than other swords. One edge of
the blade is sharpened to allow the wielder to slash effectively. The handle is
black and rounded with two quillions between it and the blade. Dark engravings
decorate the blade of the one-handed pulwar.
It looks like it is in prime condition.
Gods be praised! ;-)
