Maps make life too easy?
I am wondering..
Back in the days, one of the dangerous things in a fight was fleeing, since you didn't know where you ran to.
How does this effect work with these new auto-updating maps?
Are the days of being chased silly over, because people using gmcp data always know where they are?

Well magic maps turn off in darkness.
If someone relying on them they r doubly screwed when blind.
But zmud etc have had mapper forever so not like this is new.

Back in playing on Unix terminals days I had automap as well. On a piece of paper hand-drawn maps
Later on in ZMuD days it became clicky clicky times, as it is now.

Yeah, my Re Albi knowledge was comprehensive back in the day. Gorb was a Kahedan for his first guild, and I could bang out those directions from the cliff to the dock like a jackhammer. The amount of blood I shed in that castle ... that wizard wiping his greasy palms on me in combat ... ah, the memories.

Well, you're not necessarily in darkness when wimping.
The question was if the map updated to your new location, while not having got an input from the player?
I too remember a lot of maps and can do without the one I have, but it doesn't change that when I do, I always know where I am.
Which is the dangerous thing when wimping. Suddenly you don't know where you are.

Yes, the magic map will update whenever you enter a new room, whether you typed the command to go there or not.Thalric wrote:Well, you're not necessarily in darkness when wimping.
