Berwyn, when someone asks for advice about the game, it's not the place to recruit guild members. And suggesting that new players seek the library in Minas Morgul without the appropriate warnings about the area is also not very nice at all. You're more likely to send someone to their death than to be helpful.
Niedus: Don't go to Minus Morgul before asking some more experienced players, that you trust, about the dangers of going there, and how you can be safe. The area can be quite dangerous for smaller players. For new players, the Academy in Gelan is the best place to learn about magic, and I suspect you might already be a member there?
As for your questions:
Which elements are useful varies depending on the guild you are in. Usually you can find information from the guild help files or library about which types of magic are useful for which spells. But, as Berwyn mentioned, often fire/death is used for damage, earth for protection, water/life for healing, and air for speed or sending messages. But that is a big generalisation, it all depends on the guild and how it's designed.
But even if there are no help files or books in guild libraries, you can usually get an idea about which type or types of magic are used just by watching the descriptions when casting your spell. If it says "You send a shard of ice at your enemy" it's quite easy to assume water magic is used.
When it comes to wands, there are some wands in the game that anyone can use. Some can be zapped, or waved, or there is a command word to use, etc. It varies a lot as well how to activate them and what they do. However those wands are quite rare, and most wands you encounter can only, or mainly, be used by members of the School of High Magic.
