Okay Cotillion said before that darkness/blindness was not meant to be used to separate npcs and fight them one at a time.
Rather it was meant to make those without infravision or blindfighting fight worse.

However with players now never being able to assist in darkness the reverse is not true.
In a situation where the enemy uses blindness or darkness they could quite easily fight one of a team of players and the others can do nothing. Its also pretty annoying in the day to day play.

Is this what was intended?

And I thought the confusion/not being able to assist factor would be the most desirable and realistic effect of darkness in combat.

Well, if players cannot assist in darkness, attack in darkness, etc, then the ability to see in darkness runs into a danger of becoming an i-win button in the game, especially if the ability to create darkness is easy to find.

For example, if one individual who can see in darkness and generate it, runs into a team of 10 calians, the darkness and the ability to see in it completely neutralizes any advantage that Calians have. They cannot assist, and thus cannot swarm, etc.

Just something to think about.

Pretty sure there is more light in the game than darkness. Especially since there are Lamps and Torches in abundance. I don't think anyone should ever run into a situation where it is "too dark" considering everyone pretty much has Gem, and most people carry lamp/torch or weapons/eq that emit light.

Personally those who relied on Darkness in the past, or those who do rely on it now, run into the bigger problem. there are not very many darkness creating items, and those that exist are well sought after. So it makes it very difficult to get.

Imagine if you only had 1 item that lasted more than 3 hours that created light, and it only spawned 3 times each 7 days. It'd be quite hard to do anything in an evironment that has darkness.

I think the fact that you can't assist in darkness is fine. How hard is it to leave the room the way you came in? Or light your torch. Personally I think it will never be an i-win button.

My point was if the logic holds for npc's then why not players.
Changed npcs so they almost all assist even when not able to see, and then changed players to the reverse.

Wanted some confirmation that was the intention and perhaps some insight into why.

I think if you type <assist> in a dark room, the game does a random ( kill it, kill second it, kill third it, or kill fourth it ).

Think about it... get 4 of your friends, go to a basement at night time. Make 2v2 teams, shut the lights out and brawl. I think you will naturally accidentally attack your teammate. For a good time, do this test in real life and document the results.

Or, if you want to assist in darkness, light up the room or leave the room.

I would say that it should depend on your blind fighting skill. If you are good at fighting in the dark you would think you could tell one person from another by breathing and assist or even attack them when it is dark. (Ninja Scenario)

If you were poor you could still blunder about towards the sounds of combat but may end up doing more harm than good when you attack the wrong guy!! (Aegs scenario)
