While checking old logs, I discovered this one from 2001:

I got a few conclusions comparing the data to the current one (at least the data we have from the last update player base statistics). I believe the new mortal titles were implemented around April 24, 2001 (there is a note titled "New titles." but I don't have a log of it unfortunately). The last update from the Genesis population was:

Code: Select all

    novice 53 8%
    greenhorne 17 3%
    beginner 28 4%
    apprentice 23 4%
    wanderer 19 3%
    adventurer 24 4%
    adept 31 5%
    great adventurer 24 4%
    veteran 47 8%
    expert 45 7%
    rising hero 52 8%
    hero 66 11%
    titan 73 12%
    champion 32 5%
    legend 49 8%
    myth 37 6%
There can be some rounding errors, but the general idea is this one. The average was 8.7 (which would be mature great adventurer), now the average is 9.5 (which would be halfway between veteran and expert). Back then (if we take great adventurer as the average), 34% of the players were below it (with an average size between them all of 4.78, or mature apprentice), and 59% were above it (with an average size of 11, or rising hero). In the current setup, taking veteran as average, 35% of the players are below it (with an average size of 4, which is apprentice), and 55% above it (with an average size of 12.8, or mature hero).

Note also that before the alignment balance was 56/9/35, while now it is 38/29/33. Quite a lot of people were forced to be goodies before apparently (neutral guilds like the mercenaries helped!).
