Darkness and sneaking

So when it's dark in the room, you can't hide anymore? Has it always been this way or did it change recently?

Did you have a light active?
You can't hide in a dark place when shining with light. Makes sense.
Not sure if reverse applies and you can't hide in a light place when emitting darkness.
