The problem with such a helm is that an unlucky blow to the head can cause one (or both) of the issues:
1. not being able to lift the visor
2. your eye getting gouged by your own helm (not cool)

The best helm design in history is this:
Image

Protects well, doesn't impair hearing, the thin metal band at the fore is replaceable (makes direct hits to the forehead break the band, reducing impact strength and protecting helmet itself from being damaged) and is being used even today (most police and military helmets are designed after this). And I know it works because I've been hit with a metal pipe repeatedly on the head while wearing it ;)

Could you please, PLEASE, post a picture of yourself wearing this? Preferably after getting hit by the metal pipe... :-D

I was even on TV in one of those once. I used to be a member of the Ancient Warfare Historian Society at the university for several years and we were doing all kinds of shows and performances across the country in our legionnaire outfits. I wish we had more members though, then we could do stuff like our British counterparts. They formed into a Testudo (turtle) on their knees, a four-horse chariot would ride on top of them, they'd stand up and walk around with it. All we could do was pick up some ladies from the crowd and do that with them standing on top...
