How to prevent abuse?

Well, when it comes to the actual donation of items in newbie boxes, perhaps it
is a matter of a simple code.

I.e. We divide items, based on weight, damage, dulling and specials, in 5
levels. Points awarded could be 1 for level 1 item, 2 for level two etc.

Let's say that the newbie-box in Sparkle could the one box we all use for the
trial period. It goes well with the idea of Sparkle as Hub, and most newbies
should hang about here to begin with, we hope.

Add a line in the newbie-document, or some kind of special newbie item, that
reminds/tells the younglings that there are items waiting for them in the
newbie box (so they actually go look).

And the end of each week (prior to Arma) the count could be made. Person nr. 1
gave items equalling 234 points, person nr. 2 gave items equalling 484 points
etc.

Now, if one places REALLY worthy items, one gets many points (meaning that one
has to put few hours into having a good chance of winning.

vitals
If one places a HUGE amount of low level items, it means one spent a fair bit
of time getting those, in attempt to win the weekly count.

Either way, items (of good and not so good worth) are placed in the Newbie-box.
Which is something good for the game, and those newbies that arrive.

Now, if one expects or mistrusts players to create Seconds to loot the boxes
for their larger characters, it could be solved by code.

'You try to wield the ***, but as you do, a voice enters you mind, stern and
forboding, reminding you that this is a item that has been placed in the Newbie
box, and thus is intended to be used only by such' You fail to wield/wear etc
the item.

Ok, moving on to rewards handed out for behaviour, e.g. Accomplished newbie
helper, Senior Comedian, General Nut-case etc, we could have the vote made in
Sparkle.

Those players that feel they are impressed by anothers actions, can travel to
Sparkle and vote. One name allowed per week for each category, no votes placed
on oneself (...).

If we after a while se some strange patters, e.g. all Dagarim Aran vote for
Beregond each week in each category, well then we pull Beregond's ear and say;
what are you up to you scoundrel! This is not how the idea was intended to be
used.

Now, to be perfectly honest, if someone somehow manages to lure the same people
to vote the same each week, I think we could add the category Inventive Sceemer
and reward that as well (because it would be quite a feat).

As for second created to vote on someone, well, if we have a character that
logs in 33,5 seconds each week, starting in Sparkle, running to the
voting-room, placing a vote and then quitting..

We should become suspicious.

So, Gorboth (and others), perhaps my naive mind does not see all the ways this
idea could be abused, but name those and we can try to invent new thoughts to
handle such.

(And while you name the ideas, we also see who has the most corrupted mind of
all, something we could also reward in the end..)

Sincerely,
Beregond's player
