NPC Raids

Greetings All,

After some time away I as a returned with Beregond, and started making plans
for his routines, noticed that most areas look and feel the same when it comes
to opponents.

Thus the idea was formed that it would be fun and more of a variety if there
would be random NPC Raids of different level and severity across the Realm and
specific areas.

For example an Orc Raiding Party, consisting of 5-15 Orcs could come down from
the Misty Mountains in Middle Earth and head for Bree and the Shire, where they
attack anything on sight by default.

It would make the are for players more interesting, dangerous, and would add
flavour to the Realm code that is already in place.

The idea is not new of course, since The Vingaard Keep is raided every now and
then, and also in Calia the code exists.

My suggestion is that there is an extension of this code and idea, placing it
in for example Middle Earth, Sparkle, and other places to lure and allure
players to travel there.

There could be random drops of various equipment as well, as an additional
inticement and bonus. Sometimes very very good items, sometimes not. I am sure
some mathematically inclined Wizard couldput together an algorithm of quality.

Sincerely,
Beregond's player

Drows only attack Kabal after a certain quest there is finished, so their warlocks can open the portal and launch the attack this way.
But, from what I remember, this drows aren't much of a challenge...

Edit: The hell?! There's no [center] tag? :(

There are automatic raids against the Neidar Clan (ogres and goblins from Estwilde, frost giants from the Frost mountains and undeads from Dargaard Keep). Each has its own problems and ways of tackling. These raids are automatic and random, so you may be fighting one raid when another arrives, or you may wake up and find two raids of ogres and goblins fighting the guards (almost 40 NPCs), or one raid of every type in the same room.

The raids from Calians are wizard triggered, so they trigger it only when there is a calian. Ilrahil says the BDA raid on Vingaard Keep happens only when there is at least one knight on duty, but I think these are also automatic and random (but contrary to the neidar raids, limited to one per Armageddon). I have seen the RDA raiding Kalaman too (pretty awful sight, citizens and militia corpses everywhere, draconians walking around, etc). I would like more NPC raids (dragonarmies raiding Balifor at the start of the war cycle, for example).

The shadow union are raided by ogres from time to time too. Other than that, I don't remember any other guild receiving raids. It would be nice, especially if the raiders can kill the guards that usually block persons (imagine getting near Gondor and finding a clear path inside the ranger hideout because there was no ranger around when the orcs raided the guild).

Orcs raiding Ranger's guild wouldn't be very fluffy (hard to raid something you don't know about, and even if you know, you don't know where they are), but the fight for Osgiliath could be real fun. Instead of collapsing the bridge, there could be 2 large forces fighting each other that could be assisted. The victorious side would then be considered in control of Osgiliath and have it's NPC's there which numbers would increase (like in Krynn) and would auto-attack good or evil aligned players (depending on who controls the city).
It wouldn't be Ranger NPC's though, but regular Gondorian soldiers fighting against the orcs.

I had always thought the raids on the Keep were random as well, I had woken up a few times to see one going on and no known Knights on for quite some time. Then again someone could have logged in that I didnt know.

It would be good for nearly every guild to have a raid to defend against.
Nice to see the Sparkle on happening too.
Not sure if that is one were everyone can consider it neutral, since some players play goblins.
