Unused characters purged ...

Hello Everyone ...
Today I asked Mercade if we could do a purge of false-start characters. What
too often happens is that someone creates a character, plays for a few
minutes, logs out, and never returns. We stopped purging characters a number
of years ago, and the result is that these false-start characters take up
perfectly good names and hold them hostage. With all the new players we are
hoping to get, we don't want them to have to work so hard to get the name
they want if some false-start is holding it, and never going to log in
again.
So ... the purge happened today. Of the 8817 characters that exist in the
game, 6,416 were found to be false-starts. These were characters who were
less than a day old and had not logged in any time in the last 3 months.
So ... the good news is that 6,416 previously "taken" names are now up for
grabs again for our new arrivals. It is possible (though unlikely) that a
few of the purged characters were characters that people still wanted to
own. If this is true, they were less than a day old, so I will just assume
that the owners will not be *too* inconvenienced to simply recreate them and
do as they please.
