Wise Person's Club

Hello all,

I was alerted very recently to the fact that the Wise Person's Club in Solace
of Krynn was accepting very young players into its midst. What the %#!@ was
my immediate thought. I went to check, and sure enough, some clearly drunken
behavior on the part of Armageddon (we need to get this guy some help) had
resulted in just *anyone* being able to walk up and join the club.

Well, as anyone should know, the Wise Person's of Genesis is a very respected
and exclusive club reserved for people who have been in the realms for an
amassed total of 100 game days or more. Young whipper-snappers walking around
the club drinking all the prune juice COMPLETELY ruins the atmosphere.

So ... I've changed things back to the way they are supposed to be. It seems
that this bizarrely incorrect situation has been in place for a while now.
As such, there will be a lot of people who will probably be losing their
pins and their free emote abilities. As it should be! The point was always
to give the old people something to show for their dedication. You young 'uns
still need to cut your teeth a bit more before you can be trusted to show
off all your fancy acting!

Stammering with displeasure,
G.

Mixed feelings about this.
The free emote ability is something I use alot on ALL my characters.
Couldnt give the foggiest if I was a member of the wise club, but atleast give people the ability to gain free emotes some other way.

btw just a thought.
Time spent in the donut does NOT equal wisdom.
Nor does it guarantee the maturity to NOT abuse free emotes.

I was under the impression that wemotes are logged and at least sometimes reviewed.

I've been tossing the idea around of reviving the Actor's Guild, and finding a way to make good roleplay something valuable again with free emotes the reward.

Sounds like a very good idea.
Just dont make them so unaproachable as they were before they closed.
Basically worked on the "Good old boys" principle..
You couldnt get in unless you knew people high up very welll

I have a simple question regarding abuse of the free emotion capability:

What exactly is regarded as "abuse" of it ? Using it "too much" or using it to emote real actions and thus activate triggers of other players ?

I could think of uses for free emotes, like for example to accentuate roleplay in the sense of acting according to environment or to respond better in certain situations. I could also think of them as something useful for RP "relationships", like them being available for example only in a certain Inn where lovers might go and roleplay their characters ;-)

But I wouldn't understand exactly what constitutes an abuse of it.

Abuse would be if you use them to appear to be injuring someone, using a combat ability, faking any other type of mud output that would not be an emote. Or making another player appear to be making an expression they would not want to.

Remember that all output in this game is text. With free emotes you could, for example, write that you kill someone. That would be abusive, since you basically are making an illusion spell of the ability instead of using it to to roleplay as intended.

This is why free emotes need to be handled with special care and, yes, logged.

Thanks for the explanation. I now understand and totally agree with you.

I have first hand knowledge that free emotes are reviewed.
