over all all the same people are most likely on every week or even every day.
its just for the most part people log in read mail/boards then log out
in the case of this event they are staying logged in. In a lot of casses during normal sleep hours.

the only real way to get people to log in durring sleep hours is by giving exp for botting.
and permission to do so without fear of penalty. This will give more people per hour yes
but its hardly Active player per hour as most are not active.

its not really more social cause people arent really socializing or teaming its to risky to do so

Indeed. The key would be to give people a reason to log in and do more than just check mail, though ...

If people who like to play from work are the ones doing that, they might not be spending more than 5 minutes a day in the game - just logging in to check mail to make sure they stay current with guild/social business. If they knew that they could log in and do some once-a-day task that gave them qxp or somesuch, we might see people stay for an hour or two daily. Or, if we gave them some reason to connect with other players.

This turkey thing is a big experiment that has shown us a POWERFUL effect. It proves that we have lots of players who care about their characters and showing up to receive something unique that they will not get if they do not show. I'd like to think of some good ways to use this knowledge in a way that makes the game better, is more meaningful than the current turkey structure, and is fun.

Yeah wed and friday are often the buziest times due to cooking and market quests.
you could come up with more of those, gem finding quest (find x of ambers) or bounty hunt hosted by merc guild (kill x number of mobname ) ie kill 10 orc for example. types of mobs should be limited based on alignment so that good chars don't get "kill 10 citizen" and evil chars do not get "kill 10 orc"

adding more tradeskills (or expanding on tradeskills) might help as well. maybe let gardeners grow/harvest 1 herb in a potted plant they have to tend/water daily the better its tended the more it can be harvested. they could carry it or maybe add a greenhouse or 2 where people can leave thier plants and others can tend/water and possibly get a herb out of it. this would make a sudo social atmosphere where people can ask friends to water thier plant if they cant be around.

give smiths a "chance" to extend/restore a 1 weapon/armor "last a while" status once a day by polishing it in forge. the more rare/powerful the item the smaller the chance. this would make smiths more useful to grind up.

achievments/titles might help as well. exploration, killing a boss days in a row, doing all the quests in an area... killing 100 mob... this has been mentioned before..

things like facebook and modern mmos are based around getting people to log in every day.
even for a few moments. but they are also based around collections/pets/hoarding whick is very anti genesis
or should be...

I like where Snowrose is going with things.

Most facebook games give a bonus for logging in everyday. Maybe if a small task is given to get people to stay for 30 minutes to an hour, they would stay longer. Maybe tasks could be:

Kill 10 <natural enemy>.
Collect 5 swords.
Earn minimal progress.
Find a magical ring.
Kill a Dragon.

Stuff like that could be fun.

Good ideas I think, and could probably be incorporated in Genesis without breaking or theme and feel too.

Kill a dragon ? I strongly disagree with that idea.

I think Bromen was scaling up for effect. Killing a dragon would no doubt be a myth endevor or some sort of daily team challenge for extra qexp. for lower levels it would be stuff like , kill duck... kill dogcow.
sending people after random mobs appropriate to level could be a great way to encourage exploration.

The big ones need big challenges! But killing a dragon is actually pretty simple for most of of our players. I think Fairlight opposed it mainly of ideological reasons.:)

so had an idea for increasing social interaction.
"undercover newbie" every so iften a wizard makes a newbie character sees who is helpful and friendly
rewards people afterwards.
