Body-Snatchers

Post by Mirandus » 01 Mar 2016 21:37

Code: Select all

Dearest Denizens of Genesis

So it seems that there is an outbreak of bodysnatchers in Genesis. People
who look different on the outside but are in fact the same person!

This horrific condition is know as the "double-log". Players who either
login with another character they have made so they have an artificial
team, or those who put one character in link-death before logging in
the other.

Both of these situations are against the rules. <help rules>. Genesis
is a social game as much as it might involve battle. Meet new people,
make friends, find those who you can team with and learn more about
the realms. If you wish to play by yourself, you must do so alone.
<help double-logging>

Please use the <second> command to add any other character you may have
to your account. You do this by typing <second a name> where name is the
name of the character you wish to list.

In order to combat those fiendish body-snatchers, I will be employing
the use of the combat vector. One which I do not like to use often
but which is most effective. Should you be caught double-logging on your
first offense it will result in the loss of 1/2 of the combat experience
one has learned over their lifetime.

This may not be enough. Those most fiendish of body-snatchers may wish
to try again. Should this happen I will have no choice but invoke the
charm "weakness". This charm is one that will strip away ALL of
the combat experience that one has learned over their lifetime!

Should any be so foolish as to return a third time to attempt to snatch
the bodies of our denizens, I will fervently remove them from existence.
They shall have the "deletion" curse invoked upon them and all of the
bodies they have snatched.

Naturally, the devil is in the details here. There very well may be times
where the activities performed in the first offense alone are so unwelcome
in Genesis that I simply decide to delete you and your characters on the
spot. It is always good to leave room for a bit of subjectivity where
cheating is concerned, both for leniency and for harsher measures of
punishment, so this will be no exception to that philosophy.

Let's all work together to defend Genesis from this horrible invasion
of body-snatchers. Let's use the one tool we have at our command that
will erradicate them! Use <second> and end the madness.

Yours faithful Archwizard,
Mirandus

To quote one of my favorite Marvel heroes.
"Sweet Christmas!" :P

If you ask for my opinion here, you will get MY opinion, not that of my character.

The rules and punishments Mirandus posted are for mortals. Wizards have more stricter rules in general, and stricter rules regarding this too.

Obviously you are never allowed to double log your wiz and your mortal. Actually you can't double log since all wizards are required to register all mortal characters they have on becoming a wizard. Should someone try to hide their mortal char by not registering it, and then double logging it, that would break two very basic wizard rules right away and would suffer the wrath of both the AoD and AoP, and a much harsher punishment than mortal-only player would get.

Laurel: Wizards, just as mortals have cheated in the past. And they probably will in the future. If caught they are punished, or if the rules broken was severe enough, deleted, just as mortals. We don't usually make official announcements about it though, as we have very rarely made "public hanging" part of punishments for players or wizards who cheat. I think historically it has happened sometimes though? Since I became AoP I have kept anything like that between the AoP team/admin and the player caught cheating.

But the good thing with making all punishments public would be there is probably less conspiracy theories, and less of the "admin allows cheating" attitude. On the other hand, placing a stamp in someone's forehead that they are a cheater is a pretty rough thing to do against that player. Mortal or wizard. Do you really think we should do that? Make public announcements each time someone is caught cheating? I mean we _could_ put up stakes in Sparkle and stick heads of cheaters on them or something, and all sorts of nasty things. I am not sure it's a good way of doing it though.

Good, now let's keep this on topic. To discuss cheating by wizards, create a separate thread. This thread is about the newly clarified double-logging rules and consequences.
