May I have your attention again please!
It's me, ChiefFirstClassBioLabAssistant Mizzlo. On behalf of the entire
BioLab team I want to thank you all for a very successful mission. Thanks
to you all I am now able to recreate the UltimateButterflyEncyclopediaOf-
TheGenesisDonut. Thank you, thank you, thank you all, for your extreme
bravery to venture out into the horrible outside world and all its horrible
horrors to help us with this. Now, I will happily work day and night to
create several copies of the UltimateButterflyEncyclopediaOfTheGenesisDonut
so a disaster like this won't ever happen again. And I need to get started
right away! So, for that reason I am going to let Cherek of the AoE team
take over now, to present statistics and scores for the competition.
Oh, no wait. There is one more thing, despite the rather exploded state of
our labs we did manage to create 5 special rewards for the best hunters,
using scrap metal from the explosion. Should there be any malfunctions or
gruesome accidents when using these devices in the horrendous outside world,
the BioLab takes absolutely no responsibility, as any problems will most
certainly happen because of the terrifying dangers of the world itself, not
because of a manufacturing or design flaw. The devices are thoroughly tested
and perfectly safe to use in a controlled environment (our BioLab), and using
them anywhere else is AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Now, a big thank you again! Cherek?
Yes, Thank you Mizzlo. So, let's move on to the actual event statistics,
results and prizes.
STATISTICS
72 players took part in this event, the most participants in any event the
last couple of years. Yay!
9.974 butterflies where caught, and of those 3.554 butterflies directly or
through trades ended up in stasis boxes and scored points, while the rest
stayed in trade boxes as duplicates, or were released.
96 royal, 408 extravagant, 1.449 vibrant and 1.601 plain butterflies were
caught.
166 hunters got so excited when seeing the huge metallic butterfly in Sparkle
that they broke their net while trying to catch it, before realizing it was
made of scrap metal and not a really butterfly at all, but a leaderboard.
25 butterflies unfortuntely lost their lives in the hunt, many of them
suffered a horrible shark-related death on the Bloodsea.
Over 5.000 trades where made, mostly butterflies vs butterflies, but some
rather large monetery transactions took place as well.
There were a total of 100 different butterfly species to be found, and 13
hunters found all species.
Myst and Ansgar had the most royal butterflies in their final collections
(12), Cassius the most extravagant (45), Logg the most vibrant (90) and
Un the most plain ones (90).
RESULTS
A few days into the event it was fairly clear it was going to be a 4-way race
between Ansgar, Myst, Cassius and Thalric. Myst held the lead for most of
the time, but the last few days Ansgar caught up, and looked sure to win
with just hours left, while Cassius looked to be the unlucky one to end up
outside the top 3. However, during the final _minutes_ of the event a large
number of last-minute trades took place in Sparkle, which changed the final
scores both in the top and further down the list.
Myst managed to catch Ansgar with just seconds left, but he did not pass him,
and after 14 days of hunting they both amazingly ended up with the exact same
score, and shared the win! Congratulations to both of you!
Cassius, desperate for the top 3, offered Thalric, who held 3rd place, an
offer he almost couldn't say no to, and he didn't, which meant Cassius grabbed
a spot in the top 3 during the last minutes of the event, pushing Thalric down
to 4th. A clever deal that ended up with both sides happy.
In the junior competition, for players who started the event at a level below
Expert, there was no competition, as Thalric grabbed the lead from the start
and won the junior title without anyone else getting close. Well done! Elin
and Ayre were the other two junior hunters who managed to place in the top 20
overall.
These are the final results:
1. Ansgar / Myst 460 points
3. Cassius 428 points
-----------------------------
4. Thalric (Jr winner) 421 points
5. Etanukar 397 points
6. Kvator 363 points
7. Morg 362 points
8. Ghorphys 330 points
9. Logg 325 points
10. Anderia 316 points
11. Irk 303 points
12. Gurgel 298 points
13. Enabegam 290 points
14. Starla 264 points
15. Valandil 263 points
16. Emraht 236 points
17. Daerin 233 points
18. Elin 225 points
19. Ayre 198 points
20. Cortez 190 points
Royal butterflies were worth 10 points, extravagant 5, vibrant 3 and
plain 1 point.
PRIZES
All top 20 hunters on the list above will recieve Quest and General experience
rewards, with of course the winner getting the most, and 20th place the least.
Thalric will also recieve an additional Quest experience bonus for winning the
junior title.
As Mizzlo mentioned, he and his team created 5 special items as rewards for
the event. These items are all exact copies, and look like some type of
wearable steam engine with a big mechanical hand attached to it. It looks
extremely strange, and dangerous, and I have no idea what they are for, but
Mizzlo has assured me they are very handy devices and also perfectly safe (in
his lab). They are for rental only though, and will last exactly 30 days after
being claimed at the AoE office.
One each of these devices will be awarded to the top 3 hunters Ansgar, Myst
and Cassius.
Also, Thalric will recieve an item for winning the junior competition.
The final item was randomly drawn between all the following hunters who found
at least 1 royal butterfly:
Aararax, Anderia, Avarel, Daerin, Diri, Draugor, Enabegam, Etanukar,
Ghorphys, Gurgel, Hilde, Irk, Jaezred, Kvator, Logg, Mayobe, Montagu,
Morg, Starla, Taro, Valandil and Xeris.
Stern as AoE pushed the button on the gnomish randomizer gizmo, which after
producing a worrying amount of noise and steam eventually showed the name
GURGEL on its display. Congratulations Gurgel, you can also collect an
item reward at the AoE office.
Finally, the following titles, that will last one year, have been awarded:
Ansgar & Myst, Chief Entomologist of Genesis
Cassius, First Assistant Entomologist of Genesis
Thalric, Junior Entomologist of Genesis
And remember that ALL rewards, items, XP and titles need to be claimed
at the AoE office, located one down from the main floor in the Tower of
Realms. Simply go there and type <claim rewards> to get your rewards. If
you don't, you'll miss out on your reward(s), and that's no fun. Everyone
who has a reward to claim will also receive a mail for each reward they
have won. Rewards that remain unclaimed for a very long time may eventually
be revoked by the AoE team.
Finally, I, Cherek, would like to say a big thank you to one of our newer
wizards Carnak, who was a big help in getting this over 10 year old event
to work again, and also helped with upgrading it to be more enjoyable in
modern Genesis. Of course, we should all also be thankful to Stern, Kessie,
Deagol, Tapakah and anyone else involved in the creation of the original
event.
We hope you all had fun!
Cherek
