Imbuement Stone Conversion ...

Post by gorboth » 12 Nov 2016 10:25

Code: Select all

Denizens of the Donut,

One of the problems many players have had with the imbuement system over
the years is the relative rarity of getting an imbuement stone that you
actually feel is useful to you. As such, many players have collected tons
of stones in their lapidarium that they feel are little more than junk.
Well - that junk now might just prove useful to you!

Karkadelt and I had tea today, and he explained to me that lapidarium
technology has improved quite a lot thanks to a bet he recently won with
the Elders of Mt. Nevermind. Evidently he was able to draw on a bit of
Gnomish expertise. This, coupled with his own gifts of enchantment have
lead to new realities with the lapidariums most of you carry around with
you.

Now, it will be possible to <convert> junk stones into stones you find
more useful. Karkadelt was saying to me that it doesn't matter what
stones you use, either. The only thing that matters is stone quality. So,
if you want a particular stone, you can make one using any five stones
of the same quality (e.g. "cracked", "ordinary", etc.) So, the next time
you get a stone that could be used to increase your resistance to earth
elemental magic, there is no need to shake your fists at the heavens! Simply
toss that baby into the conversion apparatus along with four other stones
you don't care about, and you could have a mercurystone or whatever is your
fancy instead.

Please mail me with anything that seems amiss with this system. Otherwise,
enjoy, and happy converting!

G.

p.s. You may need to relog to get a new lapidarium. If you <exa> your
lapidarium and do not see the ability to <convert> stones, you will know
this to be true in your case.

Sykil,

The math to get the exact imbuement stone you want has definitely increased by a massive factor with this, yes. When we did the distribution nerf, this was part of the plan we discussed, but I didn't have the time/energy back then to do this part of things. As usual, things sort of fall clunkily into place sometimes when you have a volunteer wizard workforce. So, we've been dealing with a partial picture of how we want imbuements to work for a year or so. This is much closer to how we want it to work.

I hope it will be a good balance. Please do comment as you experience the new system.

This.. is... amazing.
There are three types of people: those who can count, and those who can't.

edit:
OK nevermind, i went one level too far ;) Idea is very good :D But still 1 to 3 suits better to the imbue system where all is 1 to 3 :)

I agree with Irk. One for five is way too much.

This is quite different, both in terms of math and in terms of economy:
  • Three of the same type lets you trade up in quality.
  • Five of the same quality lets you trade laterally in type.
Another way to think of it: Previously, the only way to get stones of the type you want was to get lucky and find them, trade for them, or buy them at the auction. Meanwhile, all the imbuements you found that you didn't care about you either just disenchanted for money, or auctioned. Now, you might want to consider transmogrifying every imbuement you find. Those stones that you never would have used before can now become ANY stone you normally hope to see at auction. If you find five imbuements a day, and none of them are ones you would use, you keep them, convert them, and automatically get a stone you care about. In fact - THE one you want.

If that isn't worth 5->1 in your opinion, then don't use it, and keep dealing with Rommik. It isn't hard to see which behavior will get you the stones you want more often, though.
