Would-be Grief-Thieves - beware

Code: Select all

Hello all,

Today, I did a bit of intervention far beyond what I normally would. The
player behind the All-Grief-All-The-Time characters of Fenn/Westor/Grom was
up to his usual tricks in Sparkle today, and it pushed everyone (me included)
to their breaking point. Sometimes you just have to give people a bit of
satisfaction before everyone can move on. So, I trapped the little cockroach
and invited everyone to slaughter him - which they did.

Then, I deleted all three characters and Cotillion site-banned him. This was
following an attempted conversation with the person, who was completely
not interested in anyone's perspective other than his own, and felt very much
that because we have a thief guild, that we shouldn't get unhappy with this
sort of play.

Right.

So - anyone who feels it is their life goal to "Be Like Fenn"(TM) ... well,
you can expect a brief career.

G.

Nice one. Site ban might not be effective though, because proxy.

Also, to prevent more Groms/Westors/Fenns you could always implement that backhand ability you were proposing earlier!
*tries to look innocent*

Nwalka-Er reminds the realm that it is wise to avoid vexing him.

Lol was about to look up the Sindarian for it, then I got it.

Have to applaud the classiness of putting him in the stocks first.
Nice touch.

Chances that the player is right now looking for a proxy server to get around the site ban and back to griefing? 87%

So you basically deleted and banned person who didn't break ANY rules*? Additionally you made him open for public lynching (for the 'whining mob') within the game. Afterwards you described him as 'cockroach' in a note made as admin of the game...

Well done sir! Great 'new (old-new in this case) sheriff in town' attitude. 100% professional!

Like you couldn't just ban 'steal' command until case is resolved or something like that.

* killing, message-spamming and quest disruption are mentioned in a 'griefing' part.

This is not a new rule or even a questionable interpretation of existing rules. We have player file notes going back decades on spam stealer warnings for harassment. It is griefing and is against the rules. The player obstinately didn't want to discuss their actions, provide a reasonable defence, or repent. Creative ban hammering ensures.

Whether it is kill or say or steal, use your commands responsibly.
