Bonk deleted

Post by gorboth » 12 Dec 2016 17:45

Code: Select all

Esteemed warriors of the Realm,

Today, the player Bonk requested that I delete him and all of his
various characters. It is always a shame when I get this request, and I
usually try to talk people out of it. I was not able to talk him out of it.
According to Bonk, the way various people in the realm are using the war
as an excuse to target people of opposing factions has become a situation
fraught with grief and ruination of any fun. He claims that people
intentionally target players they know are not players who enjoy or wish
to conduct pvp, and try to kill them as often as possible. If this is true,
I would be sad to hear it. Genesis has a history of pvp that can be quite
fun. Sadly, it has been a very long time since I heard general consensus
that our current options for fun player conflict are reliable. It will,
of course, always come down at some level to people using the system in a
way that promotes fun and fairness rather than grief. Heh. What a silly
thing to even say.

This game is always in your hands, esteemed fellow Genesis enthusiasts.
What you do with it creates your reality. Is your current reality a good
one?

It's a damn shame. I liked Bonk. I know how much his alts being targeted bothered him. Hopefully he'll return someday.

We can always count on Draugor , claiming reactions were the cause.

Funny how fighting back quickly becomes an excuse for being attacked in the first place.

And we can always count on Alisa to say that his crew should be able to do idiot shit without getting attacked :P

You saying he was attacked without any sort of reason? :P You saying he didnt assist various attackers? I am not saying the BDA are not chaotic, but alot of people have cause to attack Bonk.
The alt targeting? Deplorable, makes it personal and not character related, unless one of his alts is a knigget in Krynn ofc :P

Also, am I also allowed to cry about not liking pvp and get off the Knights and Calians killist?

Instead of deleting players who request it, could you not simply cut their player data from the system and archive it somewhere?
I'm not sure how large player data files are, but you probably wouldn't need more than a flashdrive..

I don't know. Archiving always seems better to me than deletion, but who knows.
Full on deletion is just so permanent.. :(

Well, I think we must provide a way for players to remove themselves from the game. Most online services provide a way to close an account. Longtime players we try to talk out of it, and suggest they use the restrict command to begin with instead of deletion. But sometimes it gets to a point when someone just really really really wants to be removed from the game and not be able to access their character anymore.

As for backups and archives. We do have backups of the game and it's data. It would be way too unsafe to unleash noobs like me on the game without a proper backup system!:) So deleted players can usually be restored, the reason for the deletion of course decides if such a request is granted.

I am confused as to the reason for the post by the OP.

If they are pointing blame at the players, this reeks of wizard interference.

If Bonk did not want to participate in a war, that character could have left the warring guilds.
