Commune ...

Code: Select all

Esteemed fellow Genesis Enthusiasts,

I pen this note to remind you all of the importance of understanding very
well the correct and incorrect use of the <commune> command. The always
useful <help commune> page gives you all you need to know about the purpose
of this very special tool to get ahold of your friendly neighborhood wizard.
Did I say "friendly"? Well ... yes, ideally. But when the use of the command
goes off course, and strays from the very clearly laid out directions in the
help page, that can become "highly dangerous neighborhood wizard."

Wizards are not receptionists in the Genesis hotel. We do not sit by the
phone to answer calls for room service. We are not in the mood to interrupt
what we are doing to check something for you that you feel is really
important, answer a question you have, or *leer* have conversations. The
commune tool is for actual emergencies, as stipulated in the help page.
Using it for other purposes is akin to dialing 911 because you noticed that
someone had their dog off a leash.

I needed to remind a player of this today. That player decided it would be
a good idea to refuse to listen to what I was saying, even when I made it
clear that refusal to modify their behavior would result in punishment. They
seemed to think that would be just fine, so I destructed them.

Don't let this be you.
G.

p.s. The above might sound harsh, and like wizards don't want to help
players. Non! Au contraire! I feel very happy to help players when
they mail me about a problem, and I get to it as soon as I can.
But as a wizard, getting a <commune> feels like your cell phone
going off in a movie theater. It is very disruptive and unwelcome
unless it truly is an emergency.

A suggestion to lessen communes :P Remove quests. Then people atleast wont have to commune about quests bugging out after 2-3 hours of solving :D Quests are idiotic :P
