| What an exciting event it was! We hope you had fun |
| participating, it sure was fun to watch. Nine teams found |
| at least 90 items, which made this the most competitive |
| Scavenger Hunt in a long time, with the lead changing |
| many times during the event. |
| |
| Scavenger Hunt specialists and winners of several events |
| Daerin & Starla got off to a slow start this time, and |
| instead Hokus & Zugzug and Raelle & Shade had a close |
| battle for first place during the first days of the event. |
| While Raelle & Shade would later fall back a little |
| to finish 8th, H&Z had a fairly commanding lead with a few |
| days left. However, by now Daerin & Starla had mounted a |
| fierce comeback. On the morning of the last day D&S had |
| grabbed the lead and bookies around the donut were ready |
| to pay out the money on the favorites. |

| But, no so fast. Underdogs Alisa & Egwene had enjoyed a |
| solid event a few spots below the top teams, but when they |
| found some extra energy during the last days we were |
| suddenly in a three-team race for the victory. |
| |
| With just a few hours left of the event the top three |
| teams were all tied at 95 items, with A&E on top thanks |
| to a better tie breaker item. Would the underdogs hang on |
| for an upset win? The answer was no. Both D&S and H&Z |
| had one more item in their pockets to turn in, and with |
| just 1 hour and 13 minutes left H&Z also turned in the |
| molten dagger that would become the deciding factor. With |
| minutes left the score was H&Z at 97, D&S at 96, and A&E |
| at 95. However, with only a few minutes to spare Egwene |
| pulled off a trade with H&Z which worked as an insurance |
| score for H&Z, ensuring their win, while A&S ended up tied |
| for second place with D&S. |

| After an impressive run, being in the top the whole event, |
| Hokus & Zugzug won the 2018 Scavenger Hunt with 98 of 100 |
| items found. Well done! |
| |
| Daerin & Starla and Alisa & Egwene tied for second with |
| 96 items found, and even after comparing the rarity of the |
| items they found they were still tied. However, D&S won |
| the tie breaker trivia and snagged second place with |
| A&E finishing third. |
| |
| Below the top three Celse & Valandil and Saimon & Logg had |
| a solid hunt and tied for fourth place. Kvator & Syrk |
| looked to challenge for the win for a while but had to |
| settle for sixth together with Wizards of High Sorcery |
| team Talon & Tulasi. Raelle & Shade dropped to eight after |
| a great start and finished just before Carlof & Irk. |
| Namara & Sonta and Mirilander & Acheron managed to sneak |
| into the top ten with 80 items found. |

| REWARDS |

| |
| Everyone on the list above will have at least one reward |
| that they can <claim> in the Arch of Events office, |
| located one down from the entrance to the Tower of Realms |
| in Sparkle. Please note that some of you have more than |
| one reward to claim, so make sure you get all your rewards |
| by claiming multiple times if needed. |
| |
| Quest experience is awarded anyone or any team who found |
| at least 20 items. The amount of experience you receive |
| is increased if you found 40, 60, and 80 items. The final |
| QXP tier was for 100 items, but nobody found that many. |
| |
| In addition, the top 10 teams will receive bonus quest |
| experience and general experience rewards based on their |
| position. |
| |
| The top 3 teams also receive a unique item of their |
| choice with an imbue of their choice. The items are the |
| same, but the strength of the imbue depends on your |
| position in the event. The items will be yours for 30 |
| days, and cannot be lost or broken. I will contact you |
| with more information about this. |
| |
| Finally, Hokus & Zugzug are awarded with the title: |
| "Scavenger Hunter of the Realms", a title that will last |
| one year. |
| |

| STATISTICS |

| |
| This year's Scavenger Hunt had a record number of total |
| participants. Actually, we tied the old record from 2004 |
| with 101 participants, and far surpassed the hunts in |
| recent years. |
| |
| We also had a nice spike in player numbers during the |
| event with sometimes over 90 players on the "who list". |
| |
| In total exactly 3,100 accepted items were submitted to |
| the pumpkins and over 8,500 items were rejected. Early on, |
| big piles of rejected items were present at most pumpkins, |
| but a quick fire magic spell that added some flames the |
| pumpkins helped sort his out. However, the smoke over |
| Sparkle from all incinerated items may take a few weeks to |
| clear. Please try to breathe lightly when traveling |
| through Sparkle. |
| |
| Clue #9: "A plum choice of the best wine", was the clue |
| that most participants solved. This wine was submitted to |
| the pumpkins a total of 55 times, closely followed by clue |
| #48: "A juicy treat from Bree", and clue #97: "If it |
| looks like a duck and quacks like a duck then maybe it's |
| a duck", with 53 submissions each. |
| |
| Clue #99: "A colourful face looking up from the sun- |
| land" was the only clue nobody solved. Clue #35: "All |
| that glitters is not gold, but sometimes simply dirty |
| metal" was the rarest find since it was only submitted |
| by two participants. |
| |
| The auction house was not used a lot during the event |
| as most trades were direct, however, the molten dagger |
| for clue #54 was sold for 5,000 platinum coins. |
| |
| 317 costumes were hired during the event and we could |
| all enjoy a big parade of balrogs, ghosts, vampires, |
| bunnies, faeries, ents, unicorns, frogs, and who knows |
| what else. Thank you everyone who helped make Genesis a |
| more fun a festive place during the event. The museum |
| costume shop is now closed for the season. |

| We're not going to reveal the answers to all clues here, |
| but so you don't lie sleepless all night thinking about |
| them we will reveal the answers for the clues that very |
| few solved. |
| |
| Clue #99: "A colourful face looking up from the sun- |
| land." |
| |
| Solved by: 0. |
| |
| Solution: A wildflower from Anorien. "Anorien" is a |
| Sindarin word translating to "Sun-land". The colourful |
| face refer to a riddle Bilbo gave Gollum that goes |
| like this: |
| |
| An eye in a blue face |
| Saw an eye in a green face. |
| 'That eye is like to this eye' |
| Said the first eye, |
| 'But in low place |
| Not in high place.' |
| |
| Answer: Sun shining on daisies. |
| |
| We tried to have a mix of easy and hard clues, and this |
| we figured might be the hardest one, which turned out to |
| be true. |
| |
| Clue #35: "All that glitters is not gold, but sometimes |
| simply dirty metal." |
| |
| Solved by: 2. |
| |
| Solution: A metal ring found in the Entwash, all covered |
| in dirt and icky sticky stuff. |
| |
| Clue #13: "A buried treasure is certain to be dirty on |
| the outside." |
| |
| Solved by: 3. |
| |
| Solution: A dirty bag that according to its description |
| looks to have been buried somewhere. It can be found in |
| Edoras and contains a small treasure in the form of |
| gemstones. |
| |
| Clue #54: "Like a hot knife through butter." |
| |
| Solved by: 3. |
| |
| Solution: The molten dagger from the halfling in Tyr was |
| a clue many figured out, however, due to the rarity of the |
| item itself it proved to be very hard to get. |
| |
| Clue #18: "Mandatory accessory for the cottage of any |
| self-respecting witch." |
| |
| Solved by: 3. |
| |
| Solution: An iron pot from a cottage in Terel. The pot |
| could be found on the floor in the kitchen, however, very |
| few of it would spawn, so getting it required quite a bit |
| of luck as well as finding the correct location. |
| |
| Clue #88: "This blade of black steel should be on the |
| high seas, not underground." |
| |
| Solved by: 3. |
| |
| Solution: A black steel cutlass from the bandit leader |
| just outside Sparkle. A blade that belongs on the high |
| seas refers to the cutlass type of weapon, and this |
| cutlass is wielded by a bandit leader hiding far from |
| the high seas in his underground lair. |
| |
| All other clues were solved by at least 10 participants. |

| FINAL THOUGHTS |

| |
| A lot of new things were introduced during this event |
| and we in the AoE team are very happy that the majority |
| of the participants seem to enjoy solving clues instead |
| of getting a list of item descriptions. The new team |
| format and the score ghost also turned out well. |
| This new format was a test, and while there are always |
| some things we can improve for the next Scavenger Hunt, we |
| think the clues, teams, and score ghost are here to stay. |
