Impending changes to 'quietstone' imbues

Post by Arman » 19 Jul 2019 09:50

Code: Select all

Hi everyone,

Just a community announcement. I plan on making changes to the 'quietstone'
imbue that provides broad resistance to all magic types. Once the change is
implemented it will provide significantly less resistance than those imbuements
that provide resistance to a single magic element... meaning players need to
choose between having lower broad resistance or higher specific resistance.

What about items and maintained spells providing general resistance?
You see a mousetrap. I see free cheese and a challenge.

Maintained spells that provide 'general' magic resistance pay a much higher combat aid cost than spells with one (or a couple of) specific resistance type(s).

Items providing general magic resistance are reviewed on a case by case basis. There are a few that have been brought to my attention that are likely to have their resistance benefit revised - some are fine, some will probably need to be made non-stackable or reduced benefit.

A point to ponder is.
Letting the quietstones keep a good portion of power since it takes A LOT of time to collect an intense one and rather fix the larger issue that is eternally saving items.

I think quite a lot of us would have been happy with an option to rent a locker to store a few items (2? 3?), leaving intact the rest of the glowing / non-glowing system - and thereby also maintaining the centrality of guild racks and roleplay surrounding them. It seems like that was important to people pretty recently given the addition of the learners' guild in Tutori, but eternally saving items have of course greatly diminished their importance. Forever equipment has seemed to me like a big over-correction when we'd been petitioning for a much more moderate compromise. I guess I'm just complaining now, since it seems unlikely we'll go back to the days of newbies asking "I just woke up and how come my stuff is all gone!?" But complaining has its bitter pleasures.

It wasn't so much the issue of eternally saving items, but that the quietstone offered blanket protection to all element types at the same level as those stones that provided one element protection (sweatstone etc) making the latter redundant.

Let's be honest.
The eternally saving items _IS_ a huge issue.
THE issue even.

As for the nerfing of quietstones.
It's been a long time comming
