RECAP
==============================================================

The last Scavenger Hunt was very exciting and close
but it was nothing compared to this year's edition. Wow!
It did not start out that way, though, because early on
it looked like it would be a runaway victory for Zail
(later joined by Sarian), who found almost half of the
items on the first day. Nobody else was even close to that.

But, as the days went by other teams and individuals
slowly caught up, and halfway through the event it was a
two-team race between Sarian & Zail and Tulasi & Talon,
closely followed by two participants not in a team, Diri
and Faryan. Many probably wondered if the Nightlady and
the Grand Master would form an unlikely team? But no,
Diri instead joined forces with Creed, which was not
nearly as exciting for the tabloids to write about.

During the final days of the event the lead changed
countless of times, and with 24 hours to go it felt
like anyone in the top 12 could win. Faryan made a late
push and took the lead with just hours left, but when
Diri & Creed and Sarian & Zail quickly followed they
all ended up tied for the win at 89 found items.

This left Tulasi & Talon, who was in the lead many times
earlier in the event, just outside the podium. They tied
4th place with Enabegam & Ragni, who got really close to
catching up to the top three after an impressive second
half of the event.

Now, with three teams tied for the win a tie breaker
competition was held. The three tied teams all answered
questions about where they thought the 11 items that
nobody found were located.

Diri & Creed won, followed by Sarian & Zail, which left
Faryan in third place.

Why a tie-breaker some of you wondered, why can't they
all win the same prize? It's simple. If we were to allow
ties for the top three, it would mean participants could
work together in order for all of them to get the best
item reward and maximum quest experience reward. Should
that happen it would kind of ruin the competition, which
is why there will never be ties for the top three places.

REWARDS
==============================================================

Everyone on the list above will have at least one reward
that they can <claim> in the Arch of Events office,
located one down from the entrance to the Tower of Realms
in Sparkle. Please note that some of you have more than
one reward to claim, so, make sure you get all your rewards
by claiming multiple times if needed.

Quest experience is awarded anyone or any team who found
at least 20 items. The amount of experience you receive
is increased if you found 40, 60, and 80 items. The final
QXP tier was for 100 items, but nobody found that many.

In addition, the top 10 teams will receive bonus quest
experience and general experience rewards based on their
position.

The top 3 teams also receive a unique item of their
choice with an imbue of their choice. The items are the
same, but the strength of the imbue depends on your
position in the event. The items will be yours for 30
days and cannot be lost or broken. I will contact you
with more information about this.

Finally, Diri and Creed are awarded with the titles:
"Scavenger Hunter/Huntress of the Realms", titles that
will last for one year.

Congratulations to everyone who won a reward!

STATISTICS
==============================================================

This year's Scavenger Hunt had 85 participants and also
created a nice little spike in player numbers during the
event.

A total of 2,224 accepted items where submitted to the
pumpkins while 5,008 were rejected. Faryan submitted
89 correct items, which was the most by any participant,
while Zail submitted 321 incorrect ones, also the most
by any participant.

The most found item was the cup of creamed oats which
was found 45 times, closely followed by the ghastly
tear which was found 44 times.

11 items were not found at all, and you can find the
solutions for these clues below. Among the found items,
clue #73 "Zero fun without magic" (found 3 times) and clue
#89 "A white red-dotted delicacy" (found 5 times) proved
to be the hardest ones. #73 was a nullstone from Karkadelt,
which of course is no fun without the magic of imbues,
and zero is a reference to the word null in nullstone.
#89 was simply strawberry cake from Minas Tirith. A
strawberry cake usually is white with red dots (the
cream and the strawberries).

253 costumes were hired during the event and the most
popular choices were kitten (29), warewolf (23), and
grim reaper (16).

Thank you everyone who helped make Genesis a more fun and
festive place during the event. The museum costume shop is
now closed for the season.

SOLUTIONS
==============================================================

We're not going to reveal the answers to all clues here,
but so you don't lie sleepless all night thinking about
them we will reveal the answers for the clues that nobody
solved. And if some other clue that you did not figure out
continues to disturb your sleep, feel free to ask me about
the answer.

Clue #28: "Sleeps with the fishes? More like horses."

Solution: The key to spend the night at the inn in Bree.
You can rent horses just outside the inn, and it's also
named "The Prancing Pony". So, a place where you can
"sleep with the horses".

Clue #33: "Not much of a weapon, but maybe you can use
it to scratch your itchy back?"

Solution: This splintered thighbone is the weapon wielded
by the hermit in Entwash. It's not much of a weapon, but
if you visit that area you're bound to get bitten by
mosquitos, and the bites itch. A lot.

Clue #36: "This is what happens when you get tired of
drinking milk."

Solution: Well, what do you do with a cow when you get
tired of milk? You slaughter it of course, and make
cowhide clothes for yourself. The item to find was a
cowhide vest from the leather shop in Green Oaks.

Clue #39: "This is for arms of training."

Solution: An arm ring from the goblin trainers in their
camp outside Kabal.

Clue: #42: "Let's hook up in SoRo."

Solution: This is a tricky one. SoRo is like SoHo as it
refers to a place "south of", and in this case south of
the roundabout outside Gelan. South of the roundabout
you will find krougs who used barbed spears, which can
be described as spears with small hooks. So, the item
was a long barbed spear from the krougs.

Clue #45: "Have to be quick! A snowball's chance in
summer doesn't last long."

Solution: Yes, it's a snowball, but not the one from
Ice Wall as most of you thought. The clue mentions that
it won't last long in summer, and it's definitely not
summer in Ice Wall. The color of summer is green, and
the greenest lands in Genesis is of course Emerald,
which is where the this snowball comes from.

Clue #51: "This is a bit extreme, even for a corpse."

Solution: A herb known as "Dead Man's Fingers." A dead
man is of course a corpse, and fingers are extremities,
which is what the word "extreme" refers to. It's a
Faerun herb, but it can be bought in herb shops as well.

Clue #54: "Want to toss around the old pig skin?"

Solution: Simply a dead pig from Thwil.

Clue #56: "Hard to pull off in a war."

Solution: The long ornate pulwar wielded by the Haradrims
in their camp outside Minast Morgul. The clue simply
contains the words "pull" and "war", that's all there is
to it.

Clue #76: "Blinded by so much bling you can barely see
the trees around you."

Solution: A flashy pretentious breastplate worn by the
hobgoblin Toede in Solace. It is described as terribly
gaudy, enamelled with gold and painted in bright green
and purple. Very blingy! "The trees around you" refers to
the tree-city of Solace.

Clue #82: "Skin it to win it, but remember to pick the
right color first."

Solution: A skin from one of the wargs in Isengard. In
order to enter Isengard as a good-aligned person you
need to wear the right color armours (white) as a
disguise.

FINAL THOUGHTS
==============================================================

This event was very similar to the one we held last year,
and after two successful runs we definitely think this
format with clues and teams of two is here to stay.

A year ago several teams got very close to solving all 100
clues, and since we did not want to risk a situation where
many teams would be tied at 100 we tried to make the clues
a bit harder this year. This seems to have succeeded as the
winner's score was 89, which we think is a good number.
It's a hard event, but not impossible.

The only new thing for this year was the cooldown in order
to prevent dumping tons of stuff in the pumpkins. It
definitely did what it should as nobody was able to dump
huge numbers of items in the pumpkins, but we would also
like to hear what you thought about it. Was it good? Bad?
And were the limits reasonable, or too low/high? To
provide feedback on this, or anything else, feel free to
check out this thread on the official Genesis forums
and let us know what you thought was good, and what you
think could be better next time:

We had fun preparing and running this event and we hope
you had fun participating!
