New Arch of Mudlib

Post by Cherek » 27 Apr 2021 01:58

Code: Select all

Greetings,

As many of your already know, Mercade has not been active
in Genesis for quite some time, and when we last spoke he informed
me that he was perfectly fine with me removing him from the admin
due to his inactivity. I long hoped he might actually return
one day, but, this seems more and more unlikely, so I have now
removed him from the admin... which felt really strange, since for
me, and many other wizards (and mortals), Mercade IS Genesis.

A Genesis administration without Mercade feels like a donut
without a hole. Or a hole without a donut? Either way, the absence
of Mercade will definitely leave a big hole in the admin. For many,
many, MANY, years he was the glue holding everything together, and
the wizard we all asked when we couldn't figure something out
- because Mercade always could. We'll miss you Mercade, and I
hope you will still check in on us now and then.

With Mercade not around, who is the wizard we always ask when
we can't figure something out? You guessed it. Cotillion of course!
Cotillion has also been the one handling AoM stuff while Mercade
has been inactive, so, he is of course the logical choice as new
Arch of Mudlib.

As of today Cotillion is both Arch of Gamedriver and Arch of
Mudlib. And now many of you reading this are probably thinking,
"What does the Arch of Gamedriver and Arch of Mudlib actually do?"

Well, in short the AoG manages the gamedriver, which is the big
complicated pile of code that runs the entire game. The AoM controls
the Mudlib, which is a library (of code) that defines how the world
of Genesis actually is presented to you players. One could say that
the gamedriver is the computer, the beating heart of Genesis, while
the Mudlib is the operating system that presents all the data in a
way that we all can understand.

In short, Cotillion now controls everything. Which he of course has
done for quite some time, but at least now it's official!

Cherek, Keeper of Genesis

Congratulations, Cotillion. We're lucky to have dedicated, talented people willing to maintain this world that we, as much as we often complain, love and can't do without.

Also, Cherek. I remember Gorboth doing fundraising during a time. It's been years now. Is there any which way we can put in our grain of salt?
You see a mousetrap. I see free cheese and a challenge.

I honestly though he already had that job.
Congratulations though.

Greneth has been working on a way for players to contribute using Patreon. Last I heard it was pretty close to being finished. Of course, we have a gazillion of projects that are "almost done". So, no promises :)
