Game of Thrones & The King of Instruments!
If you've got good speakers, crank up the bass and enjoy this, the themesong from Game of Thrones, arranged for the Pipe Organ by Leo Christopherson.

I wish I could give +1 that post...
Re: Game of Thrones & The King of Instruments!
I find pipe organ kinda meh. It sounds like soundtrack from 8-bit games or something.
Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6a9odk6b_c
The stuff you can do with a piano and the range of different genres you can cover is simply astounding: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WR72A7y3hiA

Zhar, to compare the range of a piano to that of a pipe organ ... wow ... I don't even know what to say to you, you poor, poor, confused soul.
The pipe organ is literally the most complex, audacious, powerful, versatile, and outstanding musical instrument ever devised by the mind of humanity.
The piano is great - yes. But the organ? It is known as the King of Instruments for a reason.
Do not bother to reply. Your opinion has already been invalidated by your previous post!

p.s. Heh! A flame from me is rare, but this one warranted it.

I have to say it is not my cup of tea either - I didn't enjoy it very much. The post rang a bell in my mind for different reason - Hereford is a town very close to main, so maybe one day I should go there to one of the concerts they give there. I'm not it any way a someone you would call a musical connoisseur but I liked the piano version of theme much better than organ one. And while we talk about different approaches and arrangements - maybe you will enjoy as much as I do http://youtu.be/ChBFFoP-Ijc and http://youtu.be/Fd9ohpDDCRU

The key is to create complex things with simple tools rather than simple things with complex ones. Pipe organ is way overblown for what it does.gorboth wrote:Zhar, to compare the range of a piano to that of a pipe organ ... wow ... In my world, the only reason for the pipe organ is to wake up people sleeping in church.
I think it sounds horribly, and it certainly didn't making going to church more enjoyable.
(Which is the only place I have ever seen such one..)

Re: Game of Thrones & The King of Instruments!
You people really should seek out good artists and experience them play great instruments. Shame on Zhar who just so happens to live in a country with one of the more powerful of those - one that is never played to 100% out of fear for the church it's in could collapse ... Gdansk Oliwa.
http://youtu.be/3FfuBdrj76I - obviously when you're there low tones blow your brain away.
My wedding had a great organ play in combo with violin. Unforgetable.
Unfortunately Mattrach wasn't an option http://youtu.be/owAj5LiXG5w (actually this one blows my mind away: http://youtu.be/ggUrTEcllXM ... the crowd is however pure epix!) so we had to settle for the softer version more like http://youtu.be/vCQxui_nmvo
Oh and we had Cohen's Hallelujah by the same pipe organ and violin duo performed too!

See ... now here you have someone actually talking sense. Thank you, Laurel, for bringing this thread back into something respectable. I don't know what these other people have been drinking to destroy their brain's ability to distinguish between reality and disgrace, but fortunately you and I seem to have avoided the stuff.

Re: Game of Thrones & The King of Instruments!
You misjudge me for someone who isn't capable of approving any form of higher artistry... The problem lies not with the pipe organ itself, rather GoT opening theme being rather average, perhaps even below average in my music ratings and it being played on pipe organs seems just utterly bland.
Music must have a context, convey messages and emotions. I'm still awestruck whenever I experience this:

I'm doing my best to re-play this game at least once a month when time allows (trying to do it at least once a week, but it's hard to find time). The combination of visual and aural experiences there is nothing short but stunning and I fell in love with it since the very first try. I wish there were more games like Journey and Flower out there, without any real menu, no text, voice or tutorial. Something that makes you immerse in it instantly and is so intuitive that no guidance is really necessary.
This soundtrack with commentary is a piece of art, I can listen to it over and over again and never get bored.
