It's actually real? Hmm. I am sure there is some trick to it that isn't seen in the final shot. Not even Jean-Claude is that badass... is he?

By all accounts, it is real. They engineered a wire of some kind that would prevent him from falling to his death in the case that he slipped off, is what I've read.
