SO! On the subject of people taking shit WAY to seriously :P

If kids want to play this game let them, its better they read it than actually have a graphic image of it in front of them :P

Just thought its something of which we should be cognizant. I'm just saying -- maybe we at least need a disclaimer??? Or what are the ramifications of actively encouraging/recruiting a minor to play the game. Just something to think about.

This can't possibly be a problem. As has been pointed out, most "normal" (for lack of a better way to say it) countries think killing is worse than sex, so I'd just stop worrying about it if I were you :)

Personally, I don't see any problem in younger people playing a game with sex in it, since 15 is an accepted legal age for actually [insert your favourite euphemism here]ing in many modern societies - and I think it's just fine if you experience it fictionally even somewhat before that.
I don't know about Israeli law, but it'd be impossible for someone to convince a Swedish court that those parts of Genesis are harmful in any way.

I suggest that you "warn" your younger friends that the game has some instances of sexual content - because that will certainly make them want to try it if they didn't want to already

EDIT: And if your local puritans give you problems, just tell them you know the Morgul Mages 8-)

I agree completely. I'll even take it one step further - why is it ok to see the violence (beheadings, bleeding wounds, eating bodyparts, whipping slaves, etc.) in game but not the <0.01% of the game thats sex related? Protesting the barely "sexy" stuff in Sybarus is like being offended that Janet Jackson's nipples were seen on live television, not the fact that the only reason they showed up is because Justin Timberlake ripped her clothes off as part of the entertainment of the show! What an amoral slut she is for being born with nipples! Stone her!

And, let's not get hysterical about US law and what is or isn't legal. The "sexy" stuff in the game would hardly meet the legal threshold in the US of "obscene." Furthermore, a federal appellate court recently overturned laws regarding distribution of material to minors because they felt that the law infringed on constitutionally protected free speech--for adults.

A few relevant articles: http://www.firstamendment.com/site-arti ... -children/

and http://www.firstamendmentcoalition.org/ ... h-victory/

Oh yah, seeing a text description of a harness in Sybarus is much worse than a 13 year old boy finding his dad's Penthouse stash. Totally.

End of rant.

Can only speak for the general swede here I guess, but the average 15 year old dude probably already seen more and much weirder porn than his parents. Does not apply to my children of course, by the time they reach the age of 10 its to the monastary.

On the topic of offensive stuff...

You got kids now?!?!? Oh dear... :)

Seriously,
I think its too bad Kitriana removed her notes before many of us could read them, I think it sounded like an interesting discussion. Atleast I had not thought about it before.

I would say Genesis is comparable to books not to movies or graphical games. Do they actually have disclaimers and "PG ratings" on books in the US?

I dont think I ever seen a warning sign on or some type of age limit on books in Sweden thats for sure. Most types of fantasy books have much more graphic violence and sex than Genesis does. I read mainly David Eddings and Robert Jordan as a kid, and there are alot of blood, gore, dismemberment and nudity in those series. I dont know but I am pretty sure most people discover the fantasy genre as young adults or teenagers. In the library and in stores they often placed in the youth section arent they?

And like someone said, if we put up a disclaimer this game contains violence and sex we would probably draw in some new kids who wanna try it. Perhaps it would be a good strategy...?:) though they would probably be disappointed on the lack of sex rather...

Yep, and also put a few banners to some sex sites on the Genesis website! interest guaranteed!

"Get a taste of Sybarus...."

And ask Lilith if you can include some quotes from her stories :P or even play them in a background!

No, there arent any. The Twilight series, as an example for what young teens are reading these days, is full of violence and sexual innuendo. The movies left a lot out and were PG-13. ;)

You guys all totally missed my point -- I was talking about player to player interaction and how the content of game could lead to possible issues. Perhaps those in Europe and other locations outside of the US don't have anything to worry about... but those in the US do with the increasing trend of those wanting to overregulate. Its just something to think about.

But whatever -- you all obviously are keen on belittling me. So please don't let me stop you. Have fun!

In the context of what I did in the school at which I taught, my concern was not for what *I* thought was inappropriate for children. Rather, my concern was for what the parents of the children I was exposing to Genesis might not only find inappropriate, but get angry and report me to my superiors over.

The sexual stuff in the game, frankly, is just totally tame in my opinion. The issue I was more concerned about was the fact that the game not only made possible, but made virtually NECESSARY the act of drunkenness. This was actually my main concern with the "mud club." And so for the club itself, I forbade any of the students to engage in any "adult" behaviors during the club hours, and left them to do what they wanted when playing on their own time.

Hey, in the end its about what gets me in trouble, not what gets me offended! (very little.)
