Guild closure

Post by Rhynox » 30 Jan 2010 19:40

Hi all,

So many things to say. I have stopped visiting Genesis-related forums
several months ago because it was pointed to me that my contribution
to them was near nil. However, reading the few posts related to these
matters here I notice little changed since I left.

The truth is, the vampires were too powerful for this game. They have
never been killed in player fighting since they were reopened. For
them, it must have been fun. For everyone else who had to fight them,
it wasn't. I have always mentioned the mages as an extremely powerful
guild that behaved correctly, and hoped for the vampires to learn
from them. However, the wrong players joined the guild, those looking
for fights. Gadez tried to influence them, but had to leave due their
obstination. Aimee had probably an idea about them, but was always
drowned in the guild warring stance.

Their presence was supposed to be balanced with priests and clerics,
but until this day they haven't been updated to handle them the way
they can handle warriors. And it has been like this for two or more
years. I am a warrior, and know my position within the food chain.
However, since the very beginning when the clerics opened and Hektor
fought Saya for the first time, the vampires always complained about
having someone above them in this chain. They complained about having
someone grow as much as Xar, about not being able to tank as good as
someone like me, about not doing as much damage as the clerics, about
not being able to use certain weapons and armours like the falchion,
about not being able to eat herbs, etc. They never accepted finding
someone being able to do something they couldn't. So, their solution
was to hunt and slay them. That was Saya's purpose, and then Freya's
one.

Ah, and once they killed someone, they complained about them being
able to recover from death in less than a month.

It is sad to see a guild close because of all the work put into its
opening and maintenance. I have never wanted them close unless it was
the last resource. Why mages and priests can frighten people by just
standing in a room while a vampire needs to attack to do the same? A
lack of roleplaying characters and too many ex-Dragonarmy soldiers
whose only purpose was to treat the guild the same way they treated
the Dragonarmy, must have discouraged those who wanted something more
than just grinding.

My opinion is not neutral. It can never be. I have been fighting them
(if such thing can be said due their overwhelming power) for years. I
have been killed by Saya in Icewall where she waited invisible until
I was too hurt to stand before attacking. I have been ambushed and
killed in a boat by Bombur, Bofur and Freya. I have been attacked
countless times, and have attacked a few myself. And never hoped to
kill one. That was probably the cause they go down. A guild that only
fights and cannot be defeated has no place here.

I applaud Sinthia's post. Unfortunately, the vampires are surely too
busy killing trolls, gathering equipment or hunting someone to read
it and realize that is what Genesis expected from them. I guess they
never cared, anyways.
