Stumble for [too] quick feet

Code: Select all

Dear Donut Dwellers,

In search of a more realistic experience, we are introducing a pilot of
stumbling. Now, when you move too fast between regular rooms, there is a
chance that you will stumble, and as the result, either fall in the
same room, or roll through a random exit in it.

The pilot is currently limited to the plains and the forest north of
Port Macdunn, but will expand to the rest of the domain (possibly
including Cadu), and based on the observations, to the areas beyond.
There is no schedule set for these expansions. We are providing a FAQ
below, and all the numbers are subject to tweaking.

FAQ:
Q: What is "too fast"?
A: At the moment, faster than 0.2 sec per room.

Q: What is the chance of a stumble when moving fast?
A: At the moment, about 1 in 10.

Q: Do I get hurt if I stumble?
A: No.

Q: Do I get more tired if I stumble?
A: No.

Q: Will stumble disrupt spells?
A: No.

Q: May the roll through a random exit possibly send me into a
   hostile room?
A: Yes.

Q: Will the roll through a random exit possibly send me into a
   room with a limited access?
A: No. If a particular exit is controlled, the stumble is not
   invoked.

Q: Will non-obvious exits be affected?
A: Yes, unless they are controlled.

Q: Will climbs, swims, enters and likewise be affected?
A: Only when they are implemented as "exits".

Q: I am using the quicktyper, e.g. "do e,s,w,..." - will I stumble?
A: No. The "do" beat it slower than the expected delay.

Q: I am scripting, what should I do?
A: Best choice is to introduce a timer between movements.

Q: I am trying to run away from my enemy, now I am doomed!
A: Your pursuer is also susceptible to the room stumbles.

Q: I have to pursue a fleeing, wimpying NPC, will it be disrupted?
A: Unlikely, since each consecutive wimpy is a result a combat
engagement. A few NPCs, like the fanatic moralist, may have an
   easier time now.

Q: Are any races better or worse at stumbling?
A: No.

Q: Does the stumble depend on any stats or skills?
A: No, but that may change.

Q: Who are exempt from stumbling?
A: Wizards, NPCs and those who linger in a room for 0.2 sec or more.
Also if somehow you turn out to be flying, you will also be exempt.

Q: I ran fast across the plains and never stumbled.
A: You were lucky.

Q: Will there be fixed messages for a stumble?
A: Yes.

Q: Will there be imbues protecting from stumbling?
A: We haven't thought about it.

Q: Who should I ask more questions about it?
A: Tapakah, via mail (answer guaranteed), or via Discord
   (answer not guaranteed)
