Magic System Update

Post by petros » 17 Feb 2013 19:19

As some of you may have heard by now, the first of the major magic guilds to be recoded (Morgul Mages) is currently going through an alpha testing phase with players (many thanks to Eowul and all the players that have helped thus far). The newly recoded spells are all based on the magic system that we have been developing over the last few years. This alpha has been a very fruitful exercise already so far in terms of stress testing our new magic system and validating some of our theories and assumptions. We have identified a few bugs and are working hard to fix them.

One of the things that we found was that mana regeneration was not working properly in the new system. This degraded the experience a bit. By fixing this issue, it also means that the Academics benefit from this change (yay for global changes). If you're a current Academic, please do test this out as well and let us know whether your experience has improved.

There are no walkers planned. If you mean the Elementalist Guild, then that guild is still under development. When there is something to update, I'll be sure to put it here or on the board in game.

A quick note on interactions with players who are helping out with the alpha testing. Not all characters in the guild are necessarily participating in the alpha testing. Please don't do anything intentionally to disrupt the testing when interacting with these characters/players. Consider them questers in terms of this policy. If this model of alpha=>beta=>release testing is successful, then we will implement it for all future recodes. I'm very much looking forward to seeing more players engaged as we start to update the layman magical guilds.

After a two weeks run, we have completed our initial alpha test with the mages and received valuable feedback. We will now be reflecting on this, and prepare whatever changes we see fit before we continue our testing with the next iteration.

Seeing the rankings page I guess magic recode is a stunning success ;)
