Yes yes yes and yes!!!!!!!!
Make a couple of layman options for drow so that they might actually become a race guild people would join for other things then RP.
Priestesess of Lolth(evil drow females only, Elistraee(good females only"not race specific"), Vhaerun(evil male drows only) :D

Code the Harpers lay guild :D

Make the forest of Cormanthor.. And have good fun coding the more then dangerous place of Myth Drannor ;p

Make functional hand crossbows! :D

Open Waterdeep and Skullport.

And whatever Ilrahil said too! :D

More like Herpes guild... (sorry, bad joke I know, but a couple beers and you'll get it)

What Genesis needs now is definitely not more guilds. Playerbase is too small at its current state to diverse it even more.
Also, it's not like Arkadia MUD or (I can only guess that because I wasn't there at the time) early Genesis days, where people were members of a racial guild, without occ or layman and there were actual wars between racial guilds with players averaging nowadays wanderer or adventurer (anyway, the level where you begin to get the positive descriptions of your stats).

Instead of adding more guilds, more effort should be put to developing the guilds that currently exist, including even extreme measure like branching (branching the mercs to have 3-4 different 'specialities', fighter, stealth, magic and perhaps priest or branching the racial guilds to have good/neutral/evil options where possible for example).

If i was talking OCC guilds i would get your point.
And yes i agree with your point there.

But lay guilds.. More the merrier..
Right now there are actually only a handful viable options for layman guilds.. Less then a handful even.

I actually would love if there were 10-15 different layman guilds for each alignment.. good-neutral-evil

Are you serious? There's 15 layman guilds listen on the Genesis main-page. That's definitely more than a 'handful'. Especially that some layman options are not even included on that list...

Most of them are more than highly viable in my opinion. You just have to find the right use for the skills/abilities offered by them.

guilds

Calimport thieves guild. Assassin like guilds would be welcomed in Genesis.
Make magic as effective and viable as physical combat. Recognizable D&D spells and items would be a boon to the realm and game.
Keep the timeline during the first three books where Mithril hall was not recovered yet. Change Luskan to the ten towns and build the realm from there southward. Introduce random npc's like the seven sisters, elminster, drizzt and friends. The Harper's guild should be more like a club than a lay guild. OCC guilds should be Braegan D'earthe (sp?) Elven Cormanthor's, Dwarven berserkers, Grumesh (sp?) shaman/warrior, Assassins of Calimport, a secret psychic guild, and priestesses of Lloth, Clerics of Denir, just to start out.

Quests should range from helping to free Mithril Hall, to research in Silverymoon, to Scrimshaw selling in the ten towns. Dragon's should be a HUGE part of epic battles. Add a coastline that can be sailed like the bloodsea. Heck even have the crystal shard make an appearance.

Just make sure not to copy/paste anything. Make the land truly something original that can satiate the end game that's lacking in Gen.

Yes, I was disappointed to discover Faerun was a grinding domain. I would have been happier with 10 rooms with something interesting in each room.

Blasphemy! CoH is probably the best and most enjoyable layman out there. I've tried them all and CoH was definitely the best experience for me (#2 being WotE), ahh many happy years many years ago.
