Hello everyone,

One thing that surprised me this year is how many people responded to my April Fool's post with comments like, "When I read that, I got really excited at first. I wish it had been true!" I did not expect that at all! I'm really curious how many of you did feel this way. Below is a refresher on what the joke was:

Denizens of the Donut,

After long deliberation, the Genesis Admin has decided it is time to make
some tough decisions for the good of the game. We have long felt that the
playerbase is not large enough to justify so many guild options, because
most guilds simply do not function well with so few members. As such, we
will, over the course of the next week, be closing all guilds other than
the following:

The Calian Warriors
The Blue Dragon Army
The Free Mercenary Guild

What this will do is give all players three very basic options - good,
evil, or neutral with melee combat being the formula. The closure of
the other guilds will give us a chance to focus without complication on
the magic recodes, and the recodes of non-normal melee and Ranger guilds.
Once the playerbase is raised, we will then have the opportunity to open
these guilds anew as we see fit.

Starting in a few days, all players will be removed from those guilds
that are not closing, and will be given a chance to join the three that
are not without difficulty. From there, it will be up to the players to
decide the fate of things to come.

I _thought_ it was true for about 1 second. :) But no I do not wish it was true at all.

Allthough the idea of fewer factions I do like, however I think it should be done with current guilds and some type of coded alliance system instead of closing guilds.

If you close down guilds, what do you plan to lure new people in with, so that old guilds can be reopened??

It seems like a very bad idea, because guilds define your characters role in Genesis to a much, much larger extent than in other games, so limiting the choices of guilds makes the game a lot less interesting. - But I guess closing down all but 3 guilds is Chereks wet dream though :)


I do understand why some might find the thought appealing/entertaining - But perhaps you could just code a club for good/evil alignment, that could help bring players together on each side of the fence, making it more of an "all of us against all of them" than how fragmented it is now.

And no its definitely nothing I want. I agree with you. However what I always say is I dont think we should _open_ any new occupations until we got the current ones active and filled with people again.

I did suggest sometime in the past that closing a few inactive guilds might be good, but I have actually changed my mind there. I think the negative effects would be greater. Dont open new occupationals is my firm belief, but closing... no I dont think so,

A coded alliance sounds like an awsome plan, however we need to make it extremelly clear to one person that leads a special guild that she aint the boss of anyone just cause theire allies.

Problem is I feel that the wizards shouldnt run on side projects all the time and stick to finishing the recodes, people in un "balanced" guilds would agree with me I believe?

If ya merge RDA/BDA/POT You'll have some dificulties as I think noone in the high command of the dragonarmies trust any PoT but Ravhin and he aint council in PoT. Hell you might even say some people despice the current council

voted no.. it would suck.. good joke tho. but no.. bad bad bad idea. :)

No i take that back, it wouldnt suck "if" krynn was say 10 times bigger. and Calia 10 times bigger too. then it wouldnt suck.. just still be terrible. :D

I think I will be the only one who will admit that I liked the idea.
I'd love to put it different way.
1 neutral mage guild - new one
1 neutral melee guild - mercenaries
1 evil mage guild - MM
1 evil melee guild - DA
1 good mage guild - Rangers/Valars new one
1 good melee guild - Knights

add chatlines for every guild for more comunication and fun.
