Halflings of Faerun Racial Guild

Post by finwe » 20 Jan 2017 04:29

Fellow Donut Dwellers,

Don't run for the hills if you see them, but if you're a hobbit, you can now become a Halfling. The new racial guild is located in Faerun. Feel free to check it out and the surrounding village.

And congrats to Finwe on opening a brand new guild for Genesis!

We add this to his already long list of distinguished wizard accomplishments and contributions over the years.

Will one be kicked from the school of high sorcery if one becomes a halfling?

No. Halflings are not restricted from joining the SoHM. Ineligible races are dwarves, orcs, goblins, kender, minotaurs, hobgoblins, and ogres.

What is the difference between a hobbit and a halfing?
If something I wrote sounds confusing ... assume you misunderstood it.

The most obvious is the hairy big feet ;)
If i remember correctly, Forgotten Realm halfings are a bit kender like in most cases but not quite the same, they don't lack the sense of fear.
They do also share some likeness with hobbits with family and such, and quite a few do not adventure at all.
Hope it helps.

They are pretty much the same. Dungeons and Dragons had the hobbit race in its initial edition, then switched them to halflings in their next edition a few years later. Probably a Tolkien copyright issue :). Halflings then evolved and diversified from there much like the elf race did... changing depending on campaign settings, but certainly being distinct from hobbits. Forgotten Realms stuck with the traditional halflings from D&D plus a range of sub-race halfling. In Krynn there are no halflings, instead a childlike race called kender. The Darksun campaign halflings were barbaric cannibals.

What?! Orcs can't join the halflings?

It's a disgrace!
Might and Glory flaming for changing dawn, ancient power revealed of an iron crown, clear and cold and shining so far and bright, crush the world in one clash of your binding light.

What Arman said. Also, halflings don' have the alignment restriction hobbits have. You can find evil halflings as well as good aligned ones. Although evil ones are pretty rare, they do exist.
