How to Promote

This was up in the Unofficial but I thought I would bring it over here and let it start back up again :)

How to Promote

1. Get with the times:

Everyone uses myspace, facebook, twitter there are millions of people that frequent those of those millions you still have about 80% of those people that play some form of console or computer game. So get a page going, have people actually frequent it and post on it show that its active. Nothing worse then trying to promote a game and showing people the site only for them to see no one even bothers posting on it.

Search through people using keywords such as fantasy, roleplaying, middle earth, dragonlance, forgotten realms... you get the picture. Find them and send them an invite to your group for Genesis on myspace or facebook. The idea is to get as many fans as possible, not because your expecting all those fans to join but you being a friend of one person shows you to all of their friends and maybe one of them might click it by wondering what it is and one thing leads to another and tada we have a new player.

2. MUD sites:

Post on them people, go to the advertising section and post an ad for the game. Focus on the good points of the game, make sure people from Genesis go and add comments to the post about how they enjoy the game. People love feedback they're more inclined to try a MUD out that several people say they love and give examples of why then of one that just had the Ad on it.

3. Voting:

Gotta vote, we've tried a few times and it goes good for a while then we kinda just slide off the radar. Were not aiming for #1 on the charts those are reserved for the games who cheat and use auto-voters. Aim for the top 40, it only takes you a few minutes to click a few buttons. Do it while you drink your coffee in the morning.

4. The Press:

Find magazines that might be interested in a going back in time article. There are thousands of them, would be a great chance for some publicity and even if every single one of them says no, theres that chance that they could change their minds when they are looking for filler articles.

5. Magic the Gathering Anyone?

Find those card shops 9/10 times they are filled with tons of things more then just cards. Talk to the owners see about working something out with leaving a stack of fliers with them, throw them a 20$ if you have to. Ask about the weekly card games they hold on the weekends go to a few talk to people (If your into that kind of thing) let them know about the game, word of mouth is amazing.

6. Roleplaying Forums?

Lots of people roleplay on forums around popular Anime or Manga such as Naruto, Bleach ect. Go to those find the advertising or other games part of the forum and throw a post up. Your giving an Ad about a roleplaying game where they can fight and roleplay without having to type out that punch they just threw and its in a game instead of some shitty forums? Instant Winner!

7. Promote with Heart:

Dont do it half assed. If your not into the whole promoting thing and not enthusiastic about it then don't force yourself to do it. Nothing gives off a worse vibe and sends people away instead of bringing them in.

8. Last but not least...

Be friendly to the newcomers, if you have to break character to explain something then do it. Show the noobs around to some fun areas. Grab some snowballs and have a war in sparkle, take them to the Arena and show off your skills with someone else. Stop grinding for an hour and get a good roleplay session going keep people interested instead of auto-running to the next grind spot.
