Guild Forums?

Post by Amorana » 24 Jan 2014 19:10

Question for the Admins:

Has there ever been any discussion of allowing players to moderate some guild forums? I.E. If each guild had their own forum which they could discuss guild related issues (such as guild goals, improvement, RP, etc) on a player-level? I just thought it would be neat if for example I could come here and discuss ideas for RP related guild events without having to OOC chats in game to do so. This could also solve some of the log issues that have been discussed. A member could post a log to their guild forum for players to see / have for record, while keeping in game discussions of events at an RP level (if that guild chooses to do so.)

Just throwing out an idea. Feel free to shoot it down.

Brilliant Idea,

Totally feasible too. Just create Groups, make guild council admins of the group, they accept people into their group, then the group has it's own forum thread that is readable only by group members.

I used to have a phpbb forum of my own and it is pretty straight forward to do and I think beyond that is a good idea in respect to being able to have that sort of OOC discussion and collaboration in a guild specific manner.

I decided to go ahead and set this up myself. I figure it's a bit time consuming managing it and probably not something the wizards want to take on (as it requires some amount of being willing to respond to community requests to update guild council stuff for sub forum moderation.) As such, I created a website over at:

http://genesisguildforums.enjin.com/

Note, this site is not to detract from game-based discussions, and is purely designed to be a place for guilds to discuss guild matters. Taken from the front page:
So,

I decided to take some initiative. We used to have some community run forums for Genesis, but we haven't had any in a long time. While I like and appreciate that there are official forums, I think it's worthwhile for the community to have a space outside of that realm to discuss internal guild issues, etc.

As such, I've created this website. Unlike the other forums, there will be no "community-wide" space (for now, unless the need should arise.) This is to promote the continued use of the official forums to discuss in game matters that affect the population as a whole. However, these forums will be small groups of forums moderated by guild councils. Unfortunately due to the nature of me needing to run the site, I will have to have access to the subforums created, but I will only be doing user level administration from this account. I will create a new account for the purposes of accessing the forums. Moderators will be the guild council, if one exists, and if not then I will appoint them on a case by case basis. For now, I want to limit this to Occupational guilds... Keeping track of lay and craft guilds will become daunting very quickly. I may make exceptions for lay guilds that are closely related to occupational branches (such as templars, monk lay, EW) if there are requests for such.

If you wish to set up some forums for your guild, please 1) register and then 2) send a mail to Amorana in Genesis to authenticate that it is you requesting access. Just include the username you registered with - no personal info needed - as well as what guild you belong to, and if you belong to the guild council. This is so that I can sort you into the correct grouping to access your forums.

Please note it may take me up to a day or two to sort you into the appropriate forum / create the forum if one does not exist yet.

Lastly, since the concern arose - I do not have access to your login info. That is stored separately by Enjin, the site provider.

Thanks!

Believe that was on Eden. To my knowledge, no such option exists on the official forums.

Im sure there is a reason they don't maybe cause there is a chance if somone leaves thier guild they may not be promptly booted from forum. it might prevent people from actually posting on guild boards unless the forum would post guild board notes (similar to common board)

as nice as it would be to be able to read all my guild boards without logging each character in then taking multiple ships to see each board. then again i bet some people ONLY log in to read boards. and would be nice to quickly see what boards have new notes.

Have had a couple new users to these lately that haven't mailed me in game to let me know their forum handle / guild affiliations. I can't give you full access until I know what guild you are in. Looking at @vtesseract and fluffybunny. :)
