Good Lord, it's endless...

Post by Berwyn » 12 Jan 2017 02:50

Hi there! ; )

I have an idea how to amuse everone who possibly feels bored as a myth... and not only: )
I suppose when you're a myth, a daemon or a dragon or even a minor deity are not a match for you; ) what if goblin engeneers dug one day an entrance to an old and forgotten mausoleum of an ancient terroror. Upon exploration, it appeared that the dungeon is endless, and since then nobody knows whats at the end because the explorers never returned.

What is known so far is that after descending to lower levels, the previous level changes completely and monsters are more and more difficult.

I would have coded it myself twenty years ago, but I am occupied with mercenary work, finding out what happend to Maligant and whether he's gone to Liwitch.

Regards,
Berwyn

I started on a dungeon like this, but got sidetracked. Maybe one day I'll finish it. :-)

In my humble opinion there are more urgent matters than any of the interesting idea's of mr Berwyn, although i like some of them.
Like getting the existingh clubs and guilds on their feet again.

Angband-style dungeon is pretty classic. It's a game on its own and possibly the only dungeon you ever need, depending on how it's made.

Someone could make a "depth-gauge" dungeon that is "infinite", like every floorplan has like 5-10 rooms, and go downwards to the next etc, with monsters increasing in difficulty.

Good to measure solo power and team power/team compositions, dps, and if they increase or decrease over time.
Might and Glory flaming for changing dawn, ancient power revealed of an iron crown, clear and cold and shining so far and bright, crush the world in one clash of your binding light.

There existed a pretty neat dungeon like Elemental plane accessible through the Isle of the Dead for a few weeks. IF I remember right the wizard who coded it planned on opening one for each element. Random armour/weapon drops, potions. Thematically for the area it was in it was off but was quite fun.

So the dungeon looks like this as I imagine it, with the only feature, the shuffling of levels upon descending and ascending, and of course monsters harder to kill with each level : )

Yeah - that's exactly what the one I've got sketched out does.
