You hear the howling of the CwnAnnwn...
Greetings!
One of the old classic games in internet history is Nethack.
If you never tried it, pls do. (Check the wikipage)
It is a singelplayer game with an incredible depth.
Free down load and easy to get started. (And hooked hehe)
In Nethack, if you ran close to death you got messages as a warning.
There were two of those, and one is the topic of the thread.
If below 1/10 of max hp you heard the howling of the CwnAnnwn...
Spectral hounds of the otherworld (Annwn).
The other rather cool message occured if you had 1hp left.
"You hear the wailing of the Banshee!"
Not really a suggestion, as those messages are from Nethack.
Still the idea is fun and could, if there were someone who had the time and lust to fix something similar, be fun in Genesis too.
PS Another fun little thing in Genesis was charisma.
A stat like strength, dexterity etc etc
Charisma was good in some occations. In shops, you got lower prices, and some animals would not autoattack if you looked handsome (high chr).
One feature someone added was if a female character (amazon) was wearing a T-shirt (start armour of the Tourist) she could take a bath in a fountain and thereby raise her CHR considerably before visiting a shop.

I approve of Nethack - however it might be "too much" for some people and as such a good place to start might be the more graphical Dungeon Crawl

ADOM is better
Also adom-style Banshee would be way cooler (oh the whine... )

Re: You hear the howling of the CwnAnnwn...
These 1/10 health warning etc seems like another reason to not look at the screen while xping (scripting).
I thought the general idea was to promote active playing? (I might be wrong cause lot of wizards actions are contrary here - like for example ogre guild*)
* and don't get me wrong I enjoy this guild (best guildhelp section on gen), just the whole '!skull farming' aspect is like asking players to script.

Re: You hear the howling of the CwnAnnwn...
Lol.. you get health over GMCP for scripting in machine-readable form...
Re: You hear the howling of the CwnAnnwn...
Dunno, only using zmud for gen (there's option to 'read' gmcp via it like in mudlet?)Toferth wrote:Lol.. you get health over GMCP for scripting in machine-readable form...

Before that I used telnet.
There I use an in game command for such matters called 'wimpy'.
