Guilds Racks new use

Post by Alteor » 11 Feb 2020 00:02

So... guild racks are seemly useless now, since everything saves...

But now we also have decay of gear.

What is guild racks instead disabled decay, or made it slower?

This way people will still have a reason to use racks.

For example, you have that favourite sword of yours... it will last 3 months on your character... but you know you are a busy person, and won't play for a week. You can instead leave sword on rack. Your guildmates will be able to use it... and maybe if the guild is not that popular, when you get back, the sword will still have same amount of time for you to use, because it didn't advance time while in rack.

You can for example put your gear in the rack, not play for a month, get back, and still use that gear for 3 months total.

Something like that.

That would actually make mega-hoarding great again. You just stack your racks with stuff that will never go away. Then we return to the previous iteration of this situation when even the less active guilds around would have equipment for 2 lifetimes of the entire playerbase.

However, I find the thought simple and interesting. Maybe gear could have another 3rd meter, rack time, which would be the current 120 days. Whenever somebody retrieves the item from the rack, the rack timer stops and the carried timer starts ticking. In battle, the combat counter.

Be that the case, you can keep your items in the racks for months without lessening their available time you have carrying them, which only counts when you take them from the racks.

I do think that's kind of a forced "scheme" to make racks great again, though. Maybe there needs to be something entirely different, now that the item saving status has been changed. For example, the guild could be providing stuff for the players like herbs for casters or the occassional potion, even mini repeatable quests rewarding them, grinding stones and smith materials, or a solid, not over the top, weapon/armour. All these can be centered around racks/guild storage.

A simpler approach is to fix the scaling of strength to max weight and volume in players.
Its absurd that most myths can carry more than 300 kg / liters of equipment without a backpack.

Or that knights ride 72kg warhorses ;)

It's an absurd world out there!

Frodo spent several years traversing the east road. I do it in one second flat.

Jokes aside, this is a good idea. Elimination, no. Prolongation, yes.
