I could never do Goob (Gub) roleplay.
Your brain must work in a strange way to be able to spell everything so badly so quickly.

Do like old Everquest events: Have the wizards play an NPC that could set off a small event and let the wizards roleplay with other people in-game. Announce it in-game that something is going on in that given area, so people can come and participate.

Have the Knights of Solmania get tasked with gathering a group by Gunthar, and escort some fair lady across the war plains to safety somewhere else. Have Ariakas and Kitiara contact the High Officers of the Dragon Armies and tell them about a message they stole off a dead knights corpse, and tell them to go and raid this caravan to slay the maiden, as she's from Gunthars family or whatever.

Have a guest lecturer come to the Academy of Elemental Arts and gather all studets and youngsters in general, for a small lecture on the art of magic. Have the lecturer show off a few neat tricks and such. Maybe use it as an advertisement for the OCC branch that'll open some day.

Have the Mouth of Sauron enter the Black Tower and gather all the Mages to inform them of new sightings of the One Ring. Have Strider gather all the Valar, Rangers and Militia folk and tell them the same things.

Have a noble of the Sybarite Noble Houses send an envoy to the Union and tell them that he demands protection, as he has to venture to the Outlands on a business trip to strike a deal with the Drows of Underdark.
Or have a shadowelf start a diplomatic crisis with the Union, so that they'd have to try and find a way to repair the relationship or be barred from the Forbidden City till the conflict is over.

Use wizards-playing-guild-NPCs to spark interaction between guilds, not necessarily in terms of fighting.
Use NPCs in power to put forth goals that the guild should strive to complete. Use the leaders of the Dragonarmies to tell them what they want them to do, ie. capture certain areas and hold them etc.
I do not think that wizards need to do much, to really create a spark that can light a bonfire.
If done well, the players will run with it, and have it grow.

Now these ideas are just things right off the top of my head, so I am sure that we could come up with a lot better ideas, if we put just a little bit of thought into it.

Think this sort of thing would be an event everyone involved would enjoy greatly.

It mentions roleplay events in help events right?
Does anyone remember there being one in the realms??
Sure there probably was but I can't recall one.

Which gives me a thought. How about player run roleplay events?
Would require some tools implemented by wizards or you would send a project of the event to wizard and wizard
would help you in delivering what you need (items, NPCs, etc.)
I have seen RP events run by players in SWG (Star Wars Galaxies MMO) and it is really amazing.
I think I have read that players in SWG are able to create quests with rewards as well with the tools implemented by wizards.
In Mx0 (Matrix Online MMO) there was a whole campaigns of admin run events - that was real fun!

The thing is that wizards are few and they have a lot of work.
Giving some tools to create events to players is probably less time consuming (excluding the implementation cost) then running all the events.
