One RACK to Rule them all, and in the darkness bind them. :)

Okay I understand that some guilds want racks that are different to look at, to compliment the atmosphere.
That is why we have chests, shelves, piles of stuff lying on floor, lockers and um racks..

But what EVERYONE wants is racks that work well!

Would it be too much effort to have a global standard for a rack system and only change the look and feel??
I spend a lot of time prior to each Armageddon sorting saving and nonsaving, then checking it again because guild mates mixing it up.
I only recently discovered a pack that can sort saving. That better than my dam racks.

Here is my wish list for the global guild rack.
THE BARE BASICS..
  • Automatically places items into the correct rack if you drop them, or for example rack weapons, rack armours commands.
  • Non saving items can be removed with a command, kick rack, shake rack etc. at any time, not just when arma active.
  • Have a separate rack for saving and non saving gear automatically.
    -OR-
  • If only one rack, then identify items within as saving or non saving, an * suffix maybe like the Auction House.
  • If only one rack, supplies non saving items first when there are more than one. eg get chainmail, pushes out a non saver first.
This is definitely basic but would be a nice step forward for many guilds.

THE WOULD LIKES
  • Someone can get a report and see who donated what, who took out what.
-The person who gathered the gear can get credit for it.
-Irresponsible users / looters easily identified.
  • Rack access controls possible, someone (a guild leader) could set a policy.
    -Allow/Disallow person.
    -Turn on/off rack points.
-Turn on/off rack points degrading over time. For example rack points degrade at 10% per week if nothing donated.
-Set point values for specific items which are donated.
-Set point threshold were below that items cannot be removed.

where I wrote "(IMPLEMENTED ALREADY)" I meant it's there already in some guild/s - either as you described, or close to it

Cheers Laurel.. The allowing and disallowing people is also out there.
And rack points system is there on the cadets racks etc.

So yeah its nearly all out there already.

Calia got rack point system also.
Calian racks also got the mark in the rack, for saving/nonsaving.

Cadets also got the racks where its automatically sorted. When you donate your stuff to them.

DA's got the rack access setup. Glads too can ban people from using racks.

It's not about what's already out there in various guilds. It's about what should be the standard for it.
Personally, I don't really need all this fancy rack, stand, shelf, jar, crate, box thing.

My suggestion:

1. weapon_type rack (multiple in case of guilds who use different weapons, it's a big hussle sometimes to look through 2 screens of weapon descriptions just to find something you'd like to use)
2. armour rack
3. general rack (for packs, torches etc.)
4. wastebin (stuff you don't need at the moment etc.)

Racks would not accept items of the wrong type.
Racks would list their items like some packs and pouches (drawing a table with name and quantity).
Every extra rack (herb rack, food rack, whatever rack) should be paid for extra in tax.

Some rack commands:
shake - all non-savers fall out, regardless of time to arma
rack x - rack weapons, rack armours etc. would work more or less like the 'donate' command in Cadets (with weapons not usable by guild landing in the wastebin)

So, basically, I agree with Tarax here, but I'd make it simpler.

I think the "its already out there aspect" is hoping that it therefore would not be re-inventing the wheel to tweak and implement...

Good point about the Table view, its a lot more elegant than all in one with commas.

I would love to be able to have the rack mark items the guilds player armoury master says are:
-Very rare (be careful with).
-Freely Available (use and abuse)
Etc

But I do not want to pay tax for it.

I would be happy to have the service linked to a warfare system, or other guild activity (gathering slaves etc) and performance in that.

When Fili joined the neidars he asked wizards to apply the ranger's racks to us. We hated them, since we were used to the previous one, but with some tweaks it became a pretty good system. We inherited the kick rack to drop non saving stuff (we were able to only do that during Armageddon), we get a list of items as if you were keeping them in a shop (with a mark if there is at least one piece that saves in the group), able to list shields, light shields, etc, and the racks now have restrictions (you cannot drop a weapon in the armour rack, or drop something broken inside... although I don't like the restriction too much).

I agree to the "one rack to rule them all" idea with all my heart.

This may seem like a minor issue but every player has to use the guild racks
at least twice each login and additionaly once per arma.

I would really like to spend all the time I spent fighting the racks on actually having fun.
This is one of the "unfriendly enviroment" issues the should be handled long ago.

If we are supposed to spend time playing the guild racks how about we get experience for that?

Code: Select all

You finally managed to retrieve a non-glowing set of equipment from the rack!
You feel much more experienced.

One could argue that tending the racks is an excellent roleplay activity for a smith or self appointed armoury master :P
